• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Liquid Performance Ethanol Equilizer

Useless. >95% Naphtha. Less than .5% organics. Naphtha is corrosive, and there is plenty in gasoline already. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are better off adding nothing.

    Liquid Performance Ethanol Equilizer

Most MSDS will reveal something about the product. I cannot find a MSDS on the web for it. A couple other products from them are all listed as Proprietary additives. I say oil of snake, and tears of unicorn are likely present. Pass. You want something that cleans injector tips, lubes the fuel...

2020 RT series are cool, but who's keeping their old Spyder

I just traded my 12 for a 19. So I'm keeping it, hopefully for a long time (had the 12 for 8 years). I'm (kind of) alone in my thinking the new 2020 Spyder is an ugly duckling. I just don't care for it. Leaving all of those to you folks that are grooving on the new design.

New to me 2012 RT Limited

Nice! Take those first few hours gently. Moving from two to three wheels will be a bit confusing until muscle memory and habit is modified. Counter-steering on three wheels does not work. You'll get it though. I think the 12's were the best of the earlier models. I loved mine. Looks like...

    Harley-Davidson CEO Resigns

Commenting on the Buell post above... I rode one of those. Hard to ride really. Power was a light switch, resulting in looking at the sky frequently. Front brake was a powerful as the engine, resulting in looking at the ground if you wanted to. BUT, it was a direction that was being shown to HD...

    engine oil for 998 sm5 ?

It would take a considerable amount of effort and bad luck to damage an engine using nearly any off the shelf oil 10w40 or above. If you look at the API donut, and the lower half is empty, you are fine in 99% of cases. You do not want to see Energy Conserving in the donut. The constant myth...

    engine oil for 998 sm5 ?

Advance. Valvoline Motorcycle oil, 10w40, or Shell Advance Motorcycle oil 10w40. O'Reilley. Valvoline Motorcycle oil 10w40. Do not bother with Castrol Go! Autozone. Valvoline Motorcycle oil 10w40. See a pattern here? WalMart. Their house brand oil SuperTech, is perfectly fine as well, 10w40 or...

    Harley-Davidson CEO Resigns

I don't want to see HD go under, or Honda, Yamaha, Suzy, KTM, Can Am, anyone really. Everyone needs to stay in business, it's an indicator of health of economy, and feeds the market with used vehicles for more to afford. But it is not the first, or second time HD business has slowed. When you...

    Harley-Davidson CEO Resigns

No surprise HD is not attracting younger riders. They all want to be Ricky Racer, riding wheelies down the highway, and weaving through traffic. The entry level 750 and Street Rod are not going to appeal to a young crowd unless Young Blood is following in Daddy's footsteps. Once you get into HD...

    $200 for an oil change?

I do stockpile some if the price is right. Currently, I could change a 1330 for right at 28.00 . BajaRon o-ring kit from eBay at 12 shipped, an Outlaw filter for 4.50, and 6 quarts of Castrol Power 1 from an AutoZone sale at 2.00 per quart. The average Joe doesn't need to hoard oil, there are...

Fairly long road trip in May

I'm in the camp of if you bring something, it will ward off the evil spirits that happen, and you won't need it. A small air pump and tire plugs should be in your kit. I ran a cigarette lighter plug to the underseat area on my 12, and now again on my 19. I use it for GPS, but it is centrally...

    Steering... whaaat?

First, happy you are OK. Machines can be repaired, humans, sometimes not so much. I came from 2 wheels too. First test ride was challenging, and I fought it at first. A persons nervous system is trained after so many years on 2 to counter-steer, and that does not work on the Spyder. I bought...

    $200 for an oil change?

If the OP is not mechanically inclined, he is at the mercy of the service dept., in more ways than one. An oil change on a 998 DIY is 50 or less. A 1330 can be done for 40 if planned carefully and bargains are sought and found. The OP is paying for someone else's intellectual and mechanical skills.

    Alternate oil filter

Oil filter choices up to now AFAIK have been Factory Can Am HiFlo HF556 K&N KN556 I found another, just an FYI for those that may be interested. I'm not endorsing or discounting any filter. Looking for a HF556, Amazon was nice enough to inform me that others have looked at the K&N, and at...
