• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Getting under the hood...

Greetings My 2015 ST Ltd. has the 998 engine. (You know the expression "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride"? I wish I had the 1330 engine.) I think it received minimal maintenance through its first two owners. I'm #3 and I am trying to do a better job. So: want to replace plugs and...

Garmin 550 not recognized by Garmin Express, but does charge - any ideas?

I have a 590 and have learned the cable makes a HUGE difference in Express recognizing the GPS. You'll need a cable designed for DATA; most any cable will charge just fine; not all carry data well. After many cable swaps, I found the one I use with my insulin pump, a data+charging cable, works...

    Windshield extension

I've used the Ebay/Chinese version on a couple bikes for wind control. Worked fine. My spyder screen is too wobbly already, but manages to direct air where I want it. I've a Cal Sci screen a PO mounted. I miss the Madstad my last bike had, and would probably go with that and a different screen...

To kill or not to kill (switch), that is the question

Only time mine goes from "Live" to "Kill(ed)" is when I bump it unintentionally. Useful when a bike and its rider are on the ground and the engine is running.

Need to replace my Sena - any reviews on Sena 50's?

I've been using SSena gear for close to 20 years. I'm done. Reviews and friend's experience tell me that when (if?) I next buy a headset it will be Cardo. My $.02, and worth every cent.

    Review: Review of M2 Shocks

Ernest I've read your suspension thread more than once. I'm a slow learner, but I learned a bit more from you. Thanks. I'm leaning into a 300 pound spring (front). Most of my riding is solo. My wife is a feather weight, so I'm thinking increasing to a 350 pound spring probably won't be...

Great ride ended with hail, blown tire, and ...

Bummer about the bike. Not a bummer: you're well and able to investigate the bummer above.

Anyone else had problems updating CanAm/Garmin GPS Units?

I upgraded the Garmin 590 to be a 595: software update with a bit of kludging too. Looks like a 590. Functionally it's a 595. Not much difference between the two, though.

What's the best way to clean Monolith Black Satin paint?

I use the chemical guys matte paint wash. Works. Doesn't put shine on the matte. Amazon. My denim blue paint looks good using that cleaner. I did some sniffing around about matte finishes; learned wax is matte's enemy. YMMV

    Review: Review of M2 Shocks

Thanks. I'm investigating springs vs. weight on bike.

Curious what your weight, geared up, is and total weight with spouse on board. Mind filling me in?

Anyone know the trick for installing under tail cover - ST?

Mike I confess your comments about enlarging the holes didn't add up for me, but I filed them away between my ears anyway. I will carefully examine both the fender itself in all its glory and the fiche with its reflected glory and exercise the habit I'm trying to develop: work slowly and...

Is this Fender Alignment worth worrying? Any fix ideas?

Well, LongIsland, I hope you are among the prophets!

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Added 1.5 cm of preload to front shocks. Went for a ride. MUCH better ride and a smidgen sharper handling on curves. I still plan to install higher weight coil springs on the original Fox shocks. Either 300 or 350 pounds. While riding I went through two torrential downpours. Standing water in...

Is this Fender Alignment worth worrying? Any fix ideas?

Mike-- As Tolkien put it: "... so carefully, carefully with the plates!" the dwarfs sang as they cleared Bilbo Baggins' table without a chipped or cracked plate and nary a spill. I'll be careful with the low-grade metal brace pieces. No heat except for last resort. Enlarging bolt/brace...

There and back again I guess.

I was sure you wrote "Damn phone" since that's frequently on my lips. It was "damp phone." Oh well. Fun to read. Nice photos to look at. Thank you.

Anyone else had problems updating CanAm/Garmin GPS Units?

I learned after much muttering and teeth gnashing that the cable is HUGELY important. I've got probably eight or ten USB cables lying around. ONE worked between PC and Garmin 590. I don't have the cable that Garmin provided. A lot of pieces of original equipment didn't make it to me, the third...

Is this Fender Alignment worth worrying? Any fix ideas?

Thank you for the feedback, each of you. Re tires. The bike's Kendas (original; manufactured in 2014) didn't align, i.e. one tire was covered by the fender, the other was not. I've now installed Vredesteins, 175/55X15, and the same applies: one covered completely by the fender, the other, not...

Is this Fender Alignment worth worrying? Any fix ideas?

Ah! The voice of experience! I could tell (too) many tales of wrenching just a quarter turn too far, or bending a piece of steel past its breaking point, or - - - and so on, ad nauseam. I'll see this as a learning opportunity, do some bolt loosening and remove the fender before leaning on it...
