The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

Are you using the 4t, or the regular automotive oil?
Roger, I get the 5 Qt jug at Walmart. The only markings in small lettering are ACEA A3/B3. I rember, about 4 years ago that I called Mobil 1 and an engineer told me that it was AOK to run in my Diesel tractor. I had put about 500 hours on it by the time I sold it to a friend, still runs like a watch. Never had the slightest issue when running on my 30 or more Motorcycles and my Spyder since then. Never had a clutch issue.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for a few years now (love the Wal-Mart prices), but the Spyder is my first vehicle in a very long time with a wet clutch.

If it doesn't say Energy Conserving on the bottle it should be safe with the wet clutch. I believe but won't guarantee that the Energy Conserving oils are 30 weight or less. I use Mobil 1 15/50 in my Honda VTX1800 wet clutch and the Motorcycle Mobil 1 10/40 in our two Spyders. No issues yet...

I've been using Mobil 1 in most of my vehicles since the early 1980's.
I remember the 1997 court case, and I was very disappointed in the verdict, and in Mobil's decision to change their formulation.
I do still use it, as it's a very good oil, and has served my needs well. My daily driver Focus has almost 350,000 miles on Mobil 1.

I have Ultra1Plus 4t in my Spyder now, but it also appears to be a hydrocracked oil.
I'm considering going to Triax Xterra 4t, which is an Ester and PAO based, true synthetic oil.

No matter what oil I've used in ANY vehicle I own, or have owned, I change oil at, or around, 3,000 miles. Wasteful? Possibly, but that's my way of protecting engines.

So Roger, what you are saying is standard mobil 1 10W30 auto oil can be used in our 1330 spyders without fear?
No, I'm not saying that, sorry for the confusion. What I meant was this: in all my cars and pickup trucks and my dry clutch R1150RT, I've been using Mobil 1 for the past few years. Now that I have the Spyder with its wet clutch, I was reluctant to use an automotive Mobile 1 oil; so I chose Rotella T6 instead. Based on what @old Timer said, I'm thinking about using the Mobil 1 5W-40. The 5W-40 is not an energy conserving oil, it does not have friction modifiers, and so it should be safe for a wet clutch.

Ok thanks. It was me that was probably confused. I do also use Roella T6. I just happen to have 6 qts of mobile 1 10w30 in my shed.
