• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should I get a 2014 now, or wait and get a newer model? Any 'gotta have' features?

I would have no issues buying a 2014 RT. My first Spyder was a 2014 RT, and the only issue that I had with it was the DESS issue with the ignition key. Outside of that, it was flawless. The quality was much better than on my 2021 RTL, but I like the removeable trunk on the newer ones. The only thing that I like about the digital dash is the fact that I can play my music through the bluetooth system on my 2021, and I could not on the 2014.

FB Marketplace within my surrounding areas is plentiful with 2014's and above. Many good deals to be had, and also given the age of these older ones, it helps if the person is somewhat wrench acquainted. Still, Great prices and low miles.

Same here. My first Spyder, also a 2014, was bought intentionally with high miles and eventually encountered a DESS issue, as well as an ACS issue. Purchased it only to see if I truly enjoyed the Spyder. And, I did!

Forward until 3 years later, I traded my 1st 2014 for my current 2014 with 19k miles. No issues what so ever other than personal upgrades. Purchasing another 2014 would be my first choice, given my experience with the ones I own(ed).

Also to add, with my current Spyder, I had the DESS disabled as a priority.
 
Some of my hesitation is that I don't know what I don't know. I feel like I will be upset with forgoing options that I think I need like heated seats and bluetooth (available on later RT Limited's). I live in MN - yet I don't see myself being out in anything other than ideal weather. I had started out with only wanting heated grips and cruise control. It's part of why I'm also not looking as hard at the F3 Limited's.

Yes. When shopping for an update on my '14 I did seriously consider an F3 LTD, but in the end I prefer the RT package. As far as sound systems go, I have no idea. I don't listen to music when I ride. The wind is my music. However, if I did, I'd use my in helmet Sena speakers. That's a far better way to listen to music than built-in speakers. Frankly, I'm amazed anyone still listens to built-in speakers on any bike. The helmet speaker technology has advanced so far as to render built-in system obsolete. Plus, I haven't listened to AM/FM over the air in years. Apps on your phone or built into your machines are superior.
 
With models such as the 2014 RT that don't have Bluetooth, you can plug a Bluetooth receiver into the audio-in jack. There are many receivers available from which to choose.

If you're asking about 2014 RT's, then No! The OEM handlebars are not adjustable, and you can't readily swap in any others that can be!

Not unless you buy or otherwise manage to score the optional (and expensive) Tri-Axis handlebars. 😒

Only if the owner pops for the optional Tri-Axis bars ($552.49 + $325.00 for installation). I did because I bought the Comfort Seat for more leg room. They have been worth every penny. I fiddled with the adjustment just about every ride for the first three months or so. Recovered some of the expense selling the original bars.
 
I'm fortunate to be able to ride year around and do so down to 32° and I've never felt a need for a heated seat. I don't use heated riding gear either; winter riding gear and heated grips do just fine for me.
 
I'm still getting frustrated sifting through RT's on Cycle Trader and private party listings on FB Marketplace. When I try something new, I typically don't go for broke headlong into it - cost or otherwise. Just when I gravitate toward 2014 - 2016's, I realize that I can get a 2020 (if I look hard enough) for about $3 - $4 thousand more. I'm not even sure how much I am going to ride - I only know I'm off motorcycles.
 
If I lived where you do, I'd put the whole thing in the cooler until next Spring. Unless you're expecting a long Indian Summer, you might not have enough time this year to learn how you like the Y ryding.
 
@JayBros, I live in MN - so that might be sound advice... but it also raises a great question. When will prices at dealers and private parties go up? It seems like dealers are currently motivated to clear out bikes in that 6 to 10-year-old range.
 
This time of year of the Northern half of USA is when bike sales get sparse.
Best time to buy, worst to sell. As long as it don't snow, the Spyders are good to go.
 
I’m new to the 3 wheel world and was in your shoes for the past few months. I just bought last week because I found what I wanted at a good price. My approach was to not spend top dollar on a newer model without knowing that I’ll love the Spyder first. So I went conservative, and I won’t take a significant loss if it’s not for me. I bought a 2017 with 20k miles and it runs great. I’m in IL and plan to ride until the salt hits the streets.
