• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

Here's the plan: We've got nothing to lose by asking nicely. I'm going to ask nicely with a polite letter explaining what I want and why I want it. If you want to help, send your own polite letter to the contact information at http://www.brp.com/en-us/company/contact-us/north-america. What...

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

No desire to mess with the firmware that controls this thing. Think of the liability if I introduce a bug that causes the vehicle stability system to freak out and hurt somebody. Remember this thing is somewhat unstable with the nanny. I'm tapping the bus at the same place BUDS connects. I...

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

Yeah but they have to be transmitted to the cluster so it can display them. David

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

Wish there were more hours in the day (or the weekend at least :)). Lots to reply to here but I've only got access to these tools for a few more hours. What is the easiest "error code" that is harmless and easy to cause / clear? I'm curious if the error codes listed in the manual map to data...

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

Yep, that sums it up pretty well. With time, smarts, analysis, etc, I might be able to figure out most of the protocol but I sure would like to know it all. Gotta go mow the lawn before the thunderstorms hit this afternoon. Check back in later with some more ideas. David

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

That's my goal. Frankly, it pisses me off to be held hostage to a $125 an hour tech when I know I am better trained and educated to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems. No offense to all the hard working and competent techs but I should not be required to pay those outrageous rates...

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

Part Two, now what? So while fun and entertaining, I don't think the current method is likely to get me / us to where we want. I want to know the data protocol well enough to have a basic "BUDS for the shade tree mechanic". I don't want to reprogram keys or change engine timing or override...

Significant progress on talking to CAN Bus on Spyder

So I managed to sweet talk a former employer into borrowing a $700 CAN bus adapter that lets my laptop see the CAN bus traffic over USB. Last night I finally sat down and played with the system to see what I could learn. This is going to be a somewhat long and technical post so bear with me...

Pin out for that 6 pin Diagnostic connector?

Time to update a long idle thread: I just successfully "eavesdropped" on the Spyder CAN bus for the first time. Bit rate is 500,000 bits per second. There are about a dozen different CAN message ID's that update about every 10-20 milliseconds. The interpretation of the messages is not...

Which wire to cut for Kisan Headlight modulator?

To clarify to both of you... the Kisan includes a simple photodiode to enable modulation only when that diode is seeing bright light. This way the system fails safe. Just disconnect the photodiode or cover it up with tape and it is the same as if the modulator is not there. David

Which wire to cut for Kisan Headlight modulator?

If you really wanted it to work, you could probably rig the high beam solenoid signal into some kind of logic "AND" signal with the daylight sensor so it only enables modulation if the high beam solenoid is enabled and the daylight sensor is seeing light. But more trouble than it was worth for...

    Oil drain plug

Now nobody I know ever did this but a friend once told me about this guy that... thought the drain plug was the same torx thread as the bolt next to it and thought he had sheared it when he really had just used the wrong tool. Then he drove an hour to the nearest dealer with a drain bolt in...

Which wire to cut for Kisan Headlight modulator?

For the record, I cut HLC-5, the Red / Blue wire and it modulates on both high and low beam. Obnoxious but after a life flight ride a few years ago, I can live with obnoxious. David

Which wire to cut for Kisan Headlight modulator?

Now that it is time to cut the wire, I am getting nervous about which wire to splice it in. They recommend splicing in the High beam circuit in the generic instructions but the can am does not have a true "high beam", it has a shutter which dims the lows. If I splice it in the "HLC-2" line...

Which wire to cut for Kisan Headlight modulator?

So Kisan does not make the model with the inline plugs anymore (P115W-D6). Instead they now sell the P115W-H3 for the Spyder which requires you to splice the Kisan inline. Looking at the wiring diagram, I am guessing the correct line is the red / blue wire downstream of the headlight relay...
