What do you wear on your Spyder? In HOT weather?

Lots of great tech clothing on the market, today, like HeatGear by UnderArmor, and Heat-Out by Cycle Gear. I wear long sleeve tech shirts and a leather vest. My Nolan N-104 has plenty of venting, but I wear a Turtle Fur Comfort Shell Biker Cap under my helmet, that I wet down. The air moving through the helmet helps provide evaporative cooling. I also wear shorts under mesh riding pants when it is oppressively hot (90's and above) . . . the other key is hydration . . . drink, drink, drink!

I might recommend a summer vented riding jacket... it has armored to protect elbows, lumbar and other important parts of your upper body... I always ride with boots... if you injure an ankle just getting around is compromised.. armored gloves are also on my list to wear as well as full face helmet.. yes it does get hot & uncomfortable in the summer, but a skin graft starts at $10,000.. not to mention the pain.. riding is fun... we are not able to choose a time to get in an accident.. so every time you ride... protect the parts of your body you prefer not to injure..

Riding gear

I have worked in the emergency department for over 30 years and have seen some nasty motorcycle injuries. Wear what you want but be prepared to suffer the consequences. I've seen road rash to the bone, well actually into the bone, and on the other hand I've seen some critically injured bikers in full gear that getting to them can be a challenge because of all the protective gear.

I own the protective gear and wear it when the weather allows but heat wins out. In hot weather I wear a half helmet with leather occipital and ear protection, sun glasses, gloves, short sleeve shirt with sun screen or a long sleeve cotton shirt, comfortable cool shoes, and jeans. Almost worse than road rash is that asphalt is extremely hot and will burn your skin quickly even with protective clothing.

I'm a fairly new rider also, getting gear with armor and vents from Aerostich. Luckily for me they are made in Duluth, which is great for driving over to look and try on.:yes:

Full leathers and gear whenever on 2 wheels, and...

for 3 wheels I use full-face helmet, gloves, over the ankle boots, long sleeve shirts & jeans for summer. For winter I have a Can-Am coat and I wear my chaps over my jeans. For night riding or foggy weather, I have a very bright yellow, very reflective coat I got from Uline for like $40 with a zip-in liner. LOL I look like a large highly reflective lemon sitting on my black RT-S!

I live in HOT weather, I felt obliged to buy the leather jacket, leather chaps, boots and gloves (helmet of course) for my new Spyder. My only issue is I am going to cook in this outfit. I am wondering if anyone thinks that our 3 wheel bike can be used with less industrial clothing? What do you wear mostly? Does anyone actually worry about being in an accident like I am? I am 55 and it is a worry, being older now, female and doing this all alone (don't have a riding partner/husband/buddy or girlfriend) to ride with and never have owned a motorcycle before. Is just jeans ok? With a regular T shirt? Or do I need the leather like I bought? I love my new motorcycle outfit, it is so cool and makes me look cool and stand out, but really my thoughts were on protection. The boots are River Road with steel inside, specifically motorcycle boots. But the heat factor scares me a bit. Anyway, love to hear what you wear....btw I live in a little tiny village, and I will wear anything in the village, even flip flops (yikes), mini skirt...haha, and get all the men googling me, but it is a tiny village after all....I am already a rebel here, a woman with a motorcycle has never happened here! haha, oh well....:yikes:

Wear what you are comfortable with. And for gosh sakes, age has nothing to do with anything. I am 10+ years older than you and I wear shorts and tennies when riding and do not worry about the safety of all of that long pants, boots and leather stuff BECAUSE I drive/ride safely. It's not a style show with me. I do wear long pants and a CanAm jacket when the weather is cooler. Enough said and happy miles of smiles!

These posts have made me think about some aspects that I have never even thought of! I didn't associate the "old wrinkled" biker chicks with the weather, and now I see how that is indeed possible. I added a cup holder to my bike and have a very nice drink cup for it that was a gift from Uline! or a nice larger bottle of water will fit in it too. I will be sure to stay hydrated. I am going to try the evaporative vest under my leather jacket first to see how that goes, but I will be looking for mesh gear as well. Even a short trip could be my last trip if a careless driver hits me so I am taking very seriously my gear and any measures I can take myself to be safe. I will buy a mesh outfit too. The leather I will use to go to Mexico City or farther away and the mesh for around here, always with my nice boots. I like the offer of that one mesh jacket but it is for men, but I am not adverse to wearing a men's gear, but I would rather get a ladies one that is more fitted to me. But it is a great price! Thanks for sharing that.

I do wear a full face helmet that fits me very snugly as a loose helmet that moves on your head probably won't do you much good, remember to push from the bottom edge in the back forward on your head, if the helmet moves forward then it is too big. Also move your helmet side to side if again it moves, it is too big. Mine does not move at all. At first I felt uncomfortable with this, because I started out with a large helmet, which was more breathable due to being too big on me, and now that my "real" helmet got here in the mail, a medium I had to remove the cheek pads and make them thinner as it was pushing my face on both sides really hard, it now is a perfect fit. I feel most people have helmets that are too loose on their heads.

Here no one goes to driving school, you just go to the office with your money and you get a motorcycle or car, or even big truck license, no test, no driving test, nothing. So I am rather careful driving and am consciously actively thinking everyone else is a moron with wheels. My motorcycle is rather expensive for here too, so people perk up when they see it, and know, if they hit it, they will get to pay for it (that is how it is here). I haven't been able to get insurance yet (and it is ridiculous but not required either), but I finally found a company that will at least insure me for theft which is a real worry that if someone stops me and beats me off of it and steals the bike it will cover me (I know it happened to another rider not to far from here) and that will insure me if I hit someone else....and medical that is fairly decent. So I am going with this for now, although I wish it was full coverage, but they want $5000 a year for that! whew...the partial is $1,500.

Everyone is going to tell you to gear up. You have to do what works best for you.
Personally, I wear cargo shorts, a tshirt, and sneakers in the summer on the spyder. On 2 wheels I swap the shorts for jeans. However, I'm rarely without a full face helmet. Again, do what works best for you!

Bingo

The key; is keeping the Sun off of you... nojoke
Covering up is actually cooler, than baking in the sunshine.
Bob you are spot on. Wearing shorts and t-shirts exposes you quickly to dehydration and eventually to dizziness and loss of consciousness. While the leather may be too extreme a good textile riding jacket with lots of venting, or a mesh jacket and pants are the key. Keep covered and your body will produce perspiration and the air coming through the vents and or the mesh will cool you. I have also added a cooling vest to the equation. I keep it soaked in water and in the saddle bag. When it gets hot I pull it out of the zip lock and put it on under my jacket. Cool as a cucumber, even in 107 degrees. Also make sure that your helmet is well ventilated. I have red though that when the temperature outside is higher than body temperature, you can actually stay cooler with vents closed as your are 98.6 and the out side if 107.

mesh gear

Here in GA. it does get pretty hot in the summer. I always wear jeans or long pants, and sometimes i will wear a mesh jacket or a t-shirt, mesh gloves, and boots. I like some protection when i'm riding. When it gets cool like in the fall, i wear leather jacket and gloves, with my jeans and boots. 3/4 helmet with face shield. Some protection is better than none. :ohyea:

I agree with your helmet statement. I believe wearing a helmet also changes the way others on the road treat you as someone who is safety aware and cares about their life. One reason I don't wear a full face helmet is I like for people to see my face and make eye contact if possible. Just as I don't care for vehicles with dark tented windows because I can't see the driver.
