There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Any tips for taming the 'Dragon'?

Just got a NEW 14 RT-S (Cognac) SM6 and like it A LOT. She's stock and there won't be enough time to even put a BajaRon bar on before going to the Tail of the Dragon. Any tips for the run, BESIDES be careful and watch speed?

2 wheels????

Did the Dragon about 6 years ago---- was great fun on 2 wheels, even 2 up. Cops are always there on weekends.

If you go to fast on the Dragon there will be:::::::

Kaos

PS: Be sure to check out the tree with all the crashed motorcycle parts. Don't put any Spyder parts on it.

If you try to consider it as a Beast to be tamed...
You're setting yourself up for disaster.

Try looking upon it as nothing more than an interesting road... ENJOY it!

As I see it..!!

safety check your ryde, tires, oil, coolant and fuel. Wear good gear and ryde at your pace. Don't let others suck you into unsafe speeds for you...enjoy it

Love the Dragon!

I have driven the Dragon many times in my old Honda S2000.....that is 4 wide tires on a low-profile extremely well weight-balanced vehicle, so my experience will be different than on a Spyder.

Narrow twisty road with a single yellow line and little to no shoulder = no room for error. If you cross the yellow line, you risk becoming a memorial. Good rule of thumb: drive as fast / aggressive as you want so long as you are in complete control at all times and be 100% focused on the task at hand. This will vary considerably by vehicle and by driver/rider. You will want an easy first run or two as you get a handle on the turns. Sport bikes and sport cars will be moving quickly when given the opportunity. I have seen Harleys throwing up sparks as their chrome pipes drag against the asphalt in turns. Depending on the day, you may encounter semis, RVs, families in station wagons, etc., along with the expected vehicles.

When driven/ridden safely and aggressively, about as much fun as you can have on asphalt.

Be certain that your tires and brakes are in excellent condition.

When I have been, local cops are OK with driving over the posted limit, but not OK at all with those who are not in control.

Could you please report back on your experience ?
I'm currently of a mind that the 2014 doesn't need the RonBar, but I haven't been to the Dragon on the 2014 yet.
I was there twice on my 2010.
I'd be interested in how you think it handles there.
Thanks.

Rode the dragon on my Kawasaki Nomad last year. Did it on a Tuesday and Wednesday. It was great but don't miss all of the other roads in the mountains. There isn't much sight seeing on the Dragons Tail.

Did one of my Dragon's today. Kept it between 40 and 30 mph depending on where. Posted 35 and 25 depending on where. Met 3 cars in 20 miles. Great day for riding in the mountains. I don't cross the center line and there is no room for error when it comes to the edge. Most of it is cliff and ravine. Slow and safe is the way I like this stretch.

BETTER OPTION

The " Rattler " is nearby. Less tourists , were less cops. I think it was a better ride too.............Mike

I still don't get the mystic of this road to be honest :bbq:

It's like those that live in that area think it is like some kind of hard road to do!

I am not trying to offend anyone here but where I live and some of the roads we have, that is a simple SAFE ride!

Sheesh man... be on a road like that were if you screw up, you fall off a 2,000 foot cliff!

This is from the Bert's mega mall ride last weekend.... It's got every bit of the switchbacks, hair pins, etc the "dragon" does but with the added fact that if you screw up, your pretty much falling off a cliff and going to die.

For those that think the Dragon is a "big challenge". Come on out to Ca. and ride some of our roads! Hell even Co. has more challenging roads than the Dragon. Again you folks in that area do not know what "mountains" are! The Rockies are real mountains!

Sorry if I offended anyone but some times I have to!

Not getting why anyone would put down someplace he has not been. There are many great roads in all states and no one is dissing the roads in California. I would like to ride that road they had the Canyon Tour on too. The area around the Tail of the Dragon has many great roads and things to see. I'll bet California does too. I know PA, Ny, Vt, NH, ME, SD, NV,WY, AZ, VA, WV, MD do.

I am not dissing it just not understanding the mystic about it?
In my opinion it has or gets way too much "fan fair" for a road in the hills. I just cannot relate to it being on many other roads far more extreme through-out the country!

And yes I watched a cycle video of the entire road! So even though I have not ridden it, I just don't get the "fan fair" it gets......

I mean my god.... It's like the most talked about road on this forum! Again I just don't get it.

I am not dissing it... just saying it's not that big deal of a road based on many I have been on out here in the west.

OK doing a little research I think I get it.

Out there, there are not many roads that are as big a challenge. This "Tail of the Dragon" is one of them. Thus it gets a lot of attention.

Out in the West we have MANY MANY roads like that all over the place! So I think I get why I am so numb to the entire "Tail of the Dragon" thing and not impressed. It's because out here, it's a norm outside of the cities in just about any rural mountain roads!

Demographics I think :)

Trust,,,, if I was out there I would want to ride that road! I am sure it is a challenge and to be honest I might have to add it to my bucket list. But in the end I have a feeling I will have been on far more challenging roads already.

The 'mystic' of the Dragon.

For me the draw to ride the Dragon is 1-that many turns in such a short ride. Illinois has 11curves in 318 miles. 2-To see firsthand what all the hype is about. I don't believe the Dragon has 'killed' anyone. Stupidity yes. Not the road. Plan on riding lesser known roads while in the area, but the Dragon is on top of my list. I'm to old to die young, so it will be a cruise, NOT to see how fast I can get there. Lucky are those who have hilly, winding, scenic rides close by, but to this 'flatlander' the Dragon will be an adventure.
