• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Madstad

BeRight got you the answer . . . .

Tom, is it one size only?
Im 5' 4", do you think that will be to tall?
I believe the problem with the BR is the cut on both sides, scooping the air in bad way.

. . . . since you are shorter than me, I would guess the 18" would work for you. I will have a better guess on that after I get mine.

From the get-go I thought the shield would be the #1 thing that riders would complain about ( if they were able to get on the F3 ). Actually, I have really come to enjoy the Blue Ridge shield.

I do like to ride without a helmet and I wear in-ear headphones- which really accentuate any wind noise. For this, the BR is ok, but with a helmet, it is Very Good. Since I wear glasses, I always now wear my helmet on windy days on the expressway- the BR works like a champ and all is very comfortable.

So, you may be wondering, why do I want a bigger shield? Debris. Given the riding position on the F3, I can't duck fast or low enough and still maintain total steering control at expressway speed. We ave a lot of wind here and a lot of debris flying around. Easter Sunday, on a back road, with no helmet, I had to drive through a ' dust devil ' because the cars behind me would not slow down. The thing was at least 100 foot across at the base. I was going about 50 when I hit it. One car got a shattered windshield and the one behind it went off the road, though no obvious damage. Even with my face on the tank, it was like a blast of buckshot, I didn't get down fast enough, so I ended up with some superficial scratches on my forehead. It could have been worse, but it was also pretty cool.:p

While, I got marked, I couldn't find a mark on the F3 - lots of dirt, pebbles, grass and dust, but nothing new from that run-in. Though at 2k, I do have 4 chips in the paint already. There is lots of stuff out there on the road. And big bugs!

Bottomline, for here I need a little more ( sometimes ) than the BR offers, though, if it were angled up a little more, it would probably be just fine. The Route 66 probably would have been perfect.

By the way, I think the BR diverts the air just fine, I don't get any buffeting - just strong wind when it is blowing from 40 mph and up.

I wonderhow many others have ordered this, and I wonder if they are hard to install?
Ron

From my past experience with a Madstad shield and what they have posted, I am expecting it to be easy. It is just a bolt-on. If you can take the BR off, you can put a Madstad on.

On my old brackets, I was going to try another shield ( from my BMW ), but I never did - it would have required drilling some holes in the shield ( not a big deal ) but the shield that came with the brackets was just fine. Not worth the little effort, but I kept it for a spare, just in case.

I expect the BR to work with the brackets - hopefully with little modification - if any. After I get it, I will post a more informed opinion on that.

Must be busy

They must be busy at Madstad, haven't returned my 2 calls yet regarding the new shield!

Very Busy

I had the same experience with Madstad, they are CRAZY busy right now. I was calling long distance from Canada, and it took me about 6 calls to get through.

But be persistent, it will be worth it!

They just emailed me my invoice for 20" system, so safe to say I should see it in a week or 2 (it's travelling a very long distance)

Though I don't have an F-3, I also ordered a 22 inch windscreen for my RS yesterday. Look forward to not having the wind hit me in the chest. :gaah::clap::yes::thumbup:

FINALLY got a chance to look at the F3 install-- for some reason, the pictures weren't coming up at work (not that I would ever look at a personal site at work ).

Anyway... I'm kinda iffy on the looks, myself. The Madstad has always been a bit of an ugly duckling-- you can't pretty up that bracket-- but at least on the RS shield, the bracket is wider than on the F3 and looks better as a result, IMO. Also, I think the shields look FAR better in the Dark Smoke tint than they do in the lighter tints / clear; YMMV.

That said, the *functionality* is where it's at, and if the F3 works as well as the one on my RS, everyone should be a huge fan. Plus, the "quick release" function is a nice touch!

I'm going to wait n see what F4 comes out with... I'm not going to spend money to make my F3 Fugly.. I don't care how good it works.. I thought those shields looked ugly on an RS!!! Man they really raised the bar / or went to the bar... My eyes hurt lookin at that!!!

To each, his own ---- but . . .

. . . . . I have seen a couple of negative comments on the aesthetics of the robo-brackets. I don't get it. On my GS they blended in, they were ' invisible '. Nobody ever noticed them. I don't see anything really different in the F3 version, so I am not sure where all this talk about them being ugly is coming from.

:joke: Maybe your computer screen is too reflective? :joke:

Tom

Agreed

Agree 100% Tom, I don't think they look bad at all, not sure where all this negativity is coming from. I think they look fine, in fact it shows off their ability to be adjusted where most others are locked into place. I look forward to receiving mine this week!

Hey,,, no need to criticize me for having a different opinion... My screen is not reflective but I think that windshield is BUTT UGLY... With all that windshields ADJUSTIBILTY you'd think you would be able to adjust it into something that doesn't look like a FRANKENSHIELD!!
