• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Passenger Backrest Security

I had the backrest installed at the dealership last week and I noticed that there is no locking mechanism. The dealer stated that the back seat must be removed to remove the backrest.
This is NOT true. I left the seat on and popped the backrest off easily.
This made me very nervous because I just spend $500 on the darn thing and anyone can just walk up and take it.
Then I noticed the little nylon loops attached to the spring mechanism and began playing around.
If you pull real hard, you can loop the nylon around the tab under the seat. This prevents the spring mechanism from moving. I suppose this is their "Security Feature". A sharp knife is all you need to get the backrest off.

Ron,

There should be a bolt that prevents the seat from being lifted out as it hits against the back seat. My dealer showed me this "security feature" and we both laughed - real high tech! For what it's worth, I wish I had gone with an aftermarket backrest. This backrest rest is NOT very comfortable as it is rather hard against by back. There is no tilting. For $450 I would have expected much, much more. My last Victory had the Utopia backrest and it was much more comfortable and for half the price. It tilted as you leaned back. That made a huge difference. The passenger backrest is still on back order. At least they will "match". If you're not concerned about a matching set or you're not getting the passenger backrest, I would recommended another aftermarket backrest.

Driver or Passenger Backrests

I still have my Victory Cross Country yet, no F3 yet either and I have a Utopia driver backrest on it too. Hopefully Utopia will have one of theirs on the market by the time I have a Spyder F3. The passenger backrest I think is the one which is so easily stolen if I follow the OP correctly. The Smoothspyder model serves as either driver or passenger backrest, converting from one to the other and looks pretty good too. Decisions-decisions!!

BRP backrest

I have the BRP backrest on my 2014 RT-S. I tried for quite a while to pull it out. To the point of pulling the seat up away from the spyder. I was unable to remove it. On a different day, when I wanted to ride without it, I looked at the underside of the seat where the bracket was and there was a spring lever that clicked/seated into the notches on the backrest. A firm pull on the lever combined with a light pull on the backrest removed the backrest. When I replaced the backrest there was a very solid sounding CLICK when it seated into place. Don't know if its different for different years or for the comfort seat.

I don't think that SmoothSpyder makes the dual backrest for the F3 yet. But I'm waiting!!! :coffee:  :popcorn:

Smooth Spyder is close to having the backrest ready.... I'll wait to get it...

Utopia install

Agreed that is a good price for a backrest, But, have you looked at the installation for that backrest? Makes me nervous. I'm getting the one from Smoothspyder as soon as he has it ready because it's plug and play. If your a handy person this is a huge savings! (I am not handy at all :)

Utopia has a backrest for F3 $225.00 Sounds like a deal to me!
