• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Auxillary Fuel Tank Installed!

TravelingSpyder

Well, we got it done. I now have 4 gallons of extra fuel. We puchased a 4 gallon Tour Tank and installed it on the BRP Sport rack. I have attached a picture of the final product and will send more pictures if that works.

I have attached some pictures of the process. The Tour Tank is the 4 gallon deluxe: http://tourtank.com/tourtanks.html

They will put the outlet wherever you want it. We put it on the end and then installed it on the fuel fill side. The outlet has a one way valve with a quick disconnect. Since the tank is higher than the fuel fill area, we will use gravity to fill the tank when needed.

We also purchased the 8 x 8 aluminum plate from Tour Tank. We attached the tank bands to this and then secured the plate to the sport rack. We had to offset it a bit to the left, so the outlet would be accessable. The pictures should help explain the process.

I have reached the max of 5 attachments, so I'll send the rest in the next posting.

These last pictures will show the rest of the process. The 1" spacers are available from Tour Tank.

Looks great. :congrats:

You do know you can create your own photo album in your UserCP and then upload your pics there and link them here. :doorag:

We did not attach to the Spyder tank. We will use a 1/4" hose with valve and gravity fill the Spyder tank from the Tour Tank. I'm sure someone with more knowledge could attach it to the main tank.

I'm still kind of looking at a trailer with a tank mounted on it, for long trips. Could mount where the cooler rack is, and with a small fuel pump, refill as needed.

Deb and I talked about the same thing on her Bushtec trailer. Our concern is getting a big enough tank to make it worthwhile while still being small enough to not overload the the trailer tongue or hitch. I wonder if we could get a 6 gallon tank mounted in place of the cooler. That would be about 40 - 45 lbs. on the tongue which doesn't sound too bad. That would give us 3 gallons reserve each or about another 100 miles.

ps. I really like what you did with your auxiliary tank TravelingSpyder. If I had the BRP sport rack, I would do that too.

Very inovative. I am impressed, and it looks great.

Agreed, but I gotta ask generally...

Is there a bladder inside? Could not tell from the WEB site.

If doG forbib you get whacked in the rear what are the chances of a tank rupture, spill, etc, etc, etc.

Looks really nice ---- great job.

One thing - is there a grounding strap running from the tank to the bike? Seems like that would be a good idea if it doesn't have one already.

A great solution to you needing more gas-----

Will it hold a 1/4 keg if you are going to the beach?

Ya know, I was thinking that...someone is going to steal it, thinking it has beer in it...what a suprise that will be when they're pouring a cold one with a cigarette in their mouth...

Call me old fashion, call me paranoid. Here are a few questions I have: How much weight will the sports rack support? How much will the tank weigh when full (gasoline weighs about 6.25 lbs/gal)? Are you sure the straps will hold a full tank secure if you hit anything that will cause a sudden stop? Are you sure the plate will hold the tank from going forward during a panic stop or collision? If it doesn't, the tank will probably kill you when it detaches and slams you. I am also going to question the legality of carrying gasoline in such a manner. Just something for you to think about.

I believe the place they got this tank from has been selling them for this purpose (motorcycle auxiliary fuel tanks) for a while. Hopefully they have designed the system to be as safe as possible.

The "system" is probably safe. I am just questioning the safety of the attachment to the sports rack. If the rack plate gets ripped off, disaster awaits. The plate was not meant to be anything but a surface to carry small items with bungie cords, etc. The way he has the tank attached the plate must also safely prevent forward or backward motion of +/-40 lbs, mounted off the surface of the plate. When the plate is subjected to stress caused by these motions, I think it will work it's way loose. If a real hard panic stop is needed, I would not trust the plate to hold. Yes, it's none of my business, but I am just questioning his mod's safety.
