• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 Alternator amperage...

It's rated for 1200 watts; isn't there a formula that'll give you an idea of what the amperage should be? :dontknow:
 
I was going to look for a formula. I assumed (bad, very bad) that someone already worked it out.

Here in Kansas, the only math we do is counting the fence poles along I-70 from Kansas City to the Colorado border. Even after taking my shoes off I only got to the Kansas Welcome Center East of Bonner Springs!

Will run all of our police lights, 3 radios, heated suits, and more. So lots of power to run all the time and also charges our 2 nd battery to on the bike. 2014 police Spyder rts.
 
12 Volts is not 12 Volts

The alternator is rated for 1,200 watts. I have not measured the actual output voltage of our 2014 but the typical auto battery charging voltage is usually between 13.8 to 14.4 volts. If we say the charging voltage is 14.0 volts then at 1,200 Watts the amperage output would be 85.7 amps.

So there you have it in a nut-shell. in other words if all your lights and horn are working it is OK--if you have not lights or horn it's time to call Ready Kilowatt I think I got it.

So how much wattage is the 1330 using?

I understand that the 1330 ace is producing 1200 watts. after the bike gets what it needs, how much is left for other things?
2015 RT-S. wanting to use Gerbing heated gear for both me and my wife. have calculated out that if we both use jacket liner, pant liner and glove liner we will need 300 watts. Plus charge two cell phones.

Better Yet, where do we find the wattage information for the bike?
 
The formula for a DC circuit is Power=I(current) times E(voltage). That will give you a ballpark idea of what's available. We could go deeper, but it can get complicated. Figure the 998 is around 600 watts, and did fairly well with some interesting additions, the 1330 should be able to handle at least as much easily.

A Test Update

An update to this thread, I wanted to see how well our 2014 RT Limited would charge up our "camping battery", which is a 12V, 35AH sealed AGM. I discharged the battery to a safe level then connected it to the Spyder with large gauge cables, engine running at idle and revved up. Below is the charging measurements observed. As you can see there is not much difference between idle and with the engine revved up.

This alternator is, for a motorcycle, a powerhouse!

While the theoretical total amperage delivered by the alternator is around 87.6 A you probably couldn't really draw anything near that for extended periods in the real charging system so I wouldn't be trying to use the microwave and the popcorn maker at the same time.
