• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I HAVE AN ABSOLUTELY
OUTRAGEOUS IDEA FOR AN EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR OUR NEW F3'S..... :firstplace:
THIS WILL EVEN BLOW-AWAY THE
BRP DESIGN ENGINEERS.... :gaah:

IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE WITHIN 100 MILES OF ME THAT HAS A MACHINE SHOP AND WOULD LIKE TO PARTAKE IN AN
R&D PROJECT WITH ME, PLEASE LET ME KNOW... YOU WOULD NEED A BRAKE-PRESS, TIG WELDER, STAINLESS SHEET STOCK (1/16"), AND NOT MUCH MORE...

I WAS SITTING IN THE 'MAN-CAVE' TODAY WORKING ON A 'BACK-REST' AND I HAPPENED TO GLANCE OVER AT MY F3 AND
'BINGO' IT HIT ME LIKE A BOLT OF LIGHTENING....
PM ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED...

PEOPLE HAVE WALKED AWAY AND PROFITED FROM MY IDEAS IN THE PAST, AND I DIDN'T CARE FOR IT THEN, AND STILL DON'T NOW....
AND ALSO, IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PUT MY IDEA INTO WORDS... HOWEVER, THE 'CAT' WOULD BE HISTORY...
SORRY,
DAN P

Boy I get that. Had a provisional patent on my own invention. Major manufacturer that I offered the product and design said they were not interested at the time, but took my idea once my patent expired.....

True Duals

I'm thinking "true duals" a type of exhaust system found on "bagger" motorcycles with one pipe or muffler on each side that fit under a pair of saddlebags. My last two motorcycles were "baggers" with this type of system. This could look good on the F3 with a set of nice sized saddlebags in my humble opinion.

Not to pee on the parade here, and no I am not a patent attorney, but having had experience in the field -- you can't discuss parameters of a design, such as dual pipes, on a public forum, and then claim uniqueness of design later when someone else picks up the idea.

If anyone is looking to develop a new product, don't get all excited and talk about it on a forum. Keep it to yourself, document everything with dates and times of your discovery, doesn't hurt to have a notary seal on any documents or designs showing the dates of your invention.

Patentable ideas are different than trademarks. If I create a short story, original music, or a photograph, by US law that content is unique and I hold the rights to it. A phrase or trademark icon is different, they should be filed. If someone steals my story, I still have to prove I wrote it, but in theory anyway I don't have to file for a trademark.

Patents, however, are treated differently, and it all comes down to who thinks of it first and can prove that when filing.

Point well taken - I have three inventions that resulted in patents that belong to company I worked for at he time (part of hiring requirement all designs/inventions belong to company) - early validated documentation and only need to know people where in the loop.

Two things to consider here. True duals generally result in a loss of power, especially low-end tq. That's why OEM exhausts have a crossover pipe. Secondly, the sound of a 3-cyl. engine might not lend itself to two pipes. Not all engines sound better when louder.....think about Civics with those fart can mufflers or, even worse, rotary engines.

US Patent Law changed about 2 years ago: it is now "first to file" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_to_file_and_first_to_invent). Records and dates are no longer important or defendable. A provisional application (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisional_application) lasts for 12 months allowing time for further development and refinement, but you need to file for full protection within that one-year time frame. This is useful if you need to show concepts and design elements to an outside entity.

thanks for the clarification, I admit my research was dated before that time.

UPDATE TIME

TO UPDATE Y'ALL....

I CONTACTED 4 MUFFLER MANUFACTURERS... 2 MOTORCYCLE, & 2 AUTOMOTIVE...
BOTH MOTORCYCLE COMPANIES COMMUNICATED BACK TO ME, NEITHER AUTOMOTIVE COMPANIES REPLIED....
BOTH THE MOTORCYCLE FACILITIES ASKED ME TO DESCRIBE MY IDEA, AND WHEN I ASKED THEM FOR SOME GUARANTEE THAT THEY WOULDN'T RUN OFF WITH MY IDEA AND LEAVE ME STANDING THERE SCRATCHING MY HEAD, THEY WERE NO LONGER INTERESTED.... ALL I'D WANT FOR MY EFFORTS WAS ONE
'FREE' UNIT... DUH..... YOU'D THINK THAT WOULD BE A 'NO BRAINER'... :dontknow:
I'M GUESSING THEY'D BOTH GO BANKRUPT IF THEY GAVE ONE AWAY.... :roflblack:

OH WELL...... I'LL GO START BUILDING MY REV. "C" FLOOR BOARDS.... "A" & "B" CAME OUT GREAT, BUT I'VE GOT ANOTHER IDEA IN MY HEAD...
