Lamont, does the photo cell get its light from the sides or the cap? I notice there are some holes in the cap face, thats why I am wondering...

These look pretty cool. I will be placing this on my wish list for sure.

I would say yes. The cap has a clear lens on the sides and the cap so it's waterproof. My guess is it will get the light or lack thereof from the sides because he has custom caps that don't let much light in from the caps.

You are correct Lamont, the photocell picks up light from the side windows and the front cap. It is tuned so that it stay off in the day and on at night when set to automatic (Glo mode)

A possible solution maybe to have a remote on/off built into the circutry like NMN's wizard kit.

This way if you are in, or traveling through a state where they are not legal, you can switch them off, and turn them back on when appropriate.

Not a remote but there is a switch on the unit. You have to pop the cover off (which is easily done) and flip the switch to off.

Well made and they look good even in the day time (no lights but the unit itself looks great).

I think it's one of those things that once you see one go by at night you'll want one. (well, 2, 1 for each side :thumbup

No motor vehicle so operated shall mount or display a flashing, rotating or oscillating light in any direction...

-MGL, TitleXIV, Chapter 90, section 7.

I realize this is for while driving (same deal for undercarriage lights) and they should be fine while parked on display. I also realize that folks will probably write in and say "I drove right past a cop in MA with these on and he didn't say anything!" like anytime we have a legal discussion here...

GloRyder's got a real nice website; it'd be great if Kurt could list where they were/weren't legal for road use.

Not being a wet blanket. BUT, Not so. "Shall not mount, display or operate means any place the public is allowed" (parking lots, etc) just having then on the bike will get you heartburn, turned on or not if the cops a :cus:. also under Massachusets General Law 540CMR22.06 No person shall mount or display a flashing, rotating or oscilating amber light, or any other color without a permit from the Registrar.

And 540CMR22.07 no person shall mount or display a lighting device that does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (FMVSR) 49 CFRpart 571.

And a definate No No "neon undercarriage lighting". No Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Purple. lights

Some of the Local and State officers sleep with the regs under there pillow, and have no sense of humor. Every job has them. The fine Under MGL Ch 90 sec. 20 used to be $300.00 now it is $35.00 first offence, $75.00 second offence, and $150.00 third and subsequent.

Some Troopers take the hard line, others are more accepting of the riders lifestyle.

No flashing lights on your vehicle period!
If extra lighting can be seen from the rear view mirror of the car in front of you, or the lighting can be seen by the car behind you, it can be considered illegal.

Blue or Red is generally a definite no-go no matter what. Though I do know people who have had GloRyders with these colors on for months or even years with no problems.

That is also why neon under body kits on cars (or motorcycles) which shine the light on the ground have been ticketed by some police officers. For that matter any extra visible lights, even the tiny blue inserts they put into the center of a red tail light, or a lit license plate holder, is ticketable. Next time you wonder about that, take a good look at an 18 wheeler rolling down the road lit up like the 4th of July.

But as you may well know when it come down to asking will or wont I get a ticket none of this means anything. I think the fairest thing we have been told by law enforcement, and this was from a veteran Captain. "It is really comes down to the individual officer".

I think that will always be true no matter what you drive.

Some LEO's in Massachusetts (not me) read the law that says no flashing or rotating to mean that when the wheel is turning (viola) "that's a rotating light"

As to the "Blue dots" some riders put in the tail lights, those have been accepted by the Registrar for years (decades) in MA.

Do the lights meet the FMVSR 49 CFR part 571 ? If they did that would go a long way in the riders defense if stopped with them on.

Hell, some of these new headlights are so white you can see then from space, however they are DOT approved.

You could contact the Registrar and lay your cards on the table and get a legal determination. Yes it's a lot of leg work, but then you could say " Legal in X, Y, and Z states"

And as You said earlier, In comes down to the officer . If he's having a bad day, Your having a bad day

I'm not suggesting anyone break the law but I have run cross country with nitrous bottles bolted to my Valkyrie and my 109. I've been pulled over and ticketed for various violations on both and yet they never gave me a ticket for the bottles even though they are illegal in pretty much every state.

At one time I had neon pinstripe on my Valkyrie that lit up pretty good and I did get pulled over for that a few times....not for a ticket, they just had never seen anything like that before and wanted to check it out.nojoke

Every bike I've ever owned has had aftermarket pipes on it. My Boss Hoss had open headers yet I've never been pulled over and ticked on any of them.

If you change a pipes, change the fuel management on any vehicle you have broke the letter of the law. Are those laws enforced? In my case not very often. I've found for the most part cops a pretty cool about stuff like that unless you're just being a jerk.

I have no worries about running these lights as I have been since Daytona along with all my No Magic LED's that I have on my bike. I'm not saying you'll never get a ticket for these but I will say it's highly unlikely and they are just too cool looking to not take that chance.:doorag:

Much appreciated. We certainly will try to keep up with everyone as we move forward. Just so you know...Motorcycles were always an eventual goal for us. You guys actually pushed us to make the move alot earlier than we had expected, but seeing the look on the bikes we are very happy with the decision.

Also if anyone has good quality photos of bikes that have been fitted tell them to feel free to send them in so that we can post a few on our site for a gallery.

I definitely like the look. I have 413 Blue LED accents on my spyder - when I purchased I did not know I could not ryde with that color light on in Florida -- I found out wheen a State Trooper pulled me over and said he could take me to jail because I had my accent lights on.
They were on solid mode I was not harrassing anybody with them I was by myself on the road. I just yes sirred him and he ended up giving me a warning.
I had probably passed 30 - 40 other cops before with the light burning with no problems.
Would love to get GloRyders but would do so in a different color than Blue in FL.
Great looking product and the lighting definitely make you more visible. :2thumbs:

Thanks Lamonster I am a big fan of blue but not of tickets.... I have been leaning toward purple or green but just not sure. I eventually would like to have under carriage lights installed as well.

Blue Lights

I don't know about other states but the motorcycle CHP officers in California have blue lights on the front of their bikes. A CHP friend of mine said it is more visible because no one else is allowed blue and it is visible from a farther distance. He also said that if a cop is watching for speeders it is an ID that the bike he is watching is CHP so don't waste you time going after him. When I mentioned maybe I should put one on the front of my H-D he said it was illegal.

GloRyder Wheel lights

We have the red GloRyder lights and love them, have people follow us off of the interstate to wherever we go to find out about the GloRyder lights. Even the Harley riders come over and question us about the lights. I think they are beautiful and really set the Spyder off. They are a really good safety feature as they give you better visibility at night in a dark parking lot to cars that are backing up. We have put about a 1000 miles on them with absolutely no problems.Kurt is great to deal with and has made a really quality product that is hassle free. I think kurt told me that you get about 60 hrs out of one set of batteries, took almost 60 hrs to put 2000 miles on the Spyder so in terms of night riding, would probably take a year to run down 1st set of batteries. Have ridden in the Fla.Keys for 3 months with no problem with the red. Am presently riding in TN, and have had no problems with the police or highway patrol, have set next to them at traffic lights. We have every bulb on the Spyder in LEDs and underneath strobes and the bike looks naked without the GloRyders.:2thumbs:

We did not include a manual in the package because Spyder is a new application and a special installation, (although it is a very simple one) and we have been working on a new manual just for you.
