• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Carrying Concealed - Part 2

I bought me a Valentines Day present this morning. Went to Carolina Rod and Gun and purchased a Smith & Wesson Model M&P BODYGUARD® 38 5 shot revolver with Crimson Trace®.:2thumbs: Took it to Quickshot and went through about a half box of rounds. Also bought a membership there because I'm going to need a LOT of practice before I can get my CC license. Between the gun and rounds and cleaning kit and Quickshot membership and various accoutrements I spent over $1000.00. The hubby (Tobor 9) had no problem with me getting everything.:firstplace: Said might as well get it now.IMG_1040.jpgIMG_1041.jpg

As a Retired L.E.O. I agree with the practice, practice and then practice some more moto.
Glad to see you choose something nice, small, and manageable. Enjoy it.
Living in Southern California, we can't take the gun home for at least ten days and a background check.
Must be nice to buy it and use it in the same day.
Here's to hoping you only have it use it for practice and not self-defense.
Happy Valentine's Day.

Yeah, that surprised both the hubby and I when I got to bring it home. Thought there was at least a 7 day waiting period. I filled out paperwork and he called it in to someone - only took about 5 minutes on the phone.

I MEAN NOTHING HARMFUL.... but after 60 years in this sport, i'm thinking you haven't purchased many weapons...
as for 'practice'... South Carolina DNR has shooting ranges throughout the state... and you also can practice in your back yard if you don't live in an 'incorporated' zone.... however, if Quickshot has instructors, that's very much a positive... good luck, and get to know your weapon and it's capabilities and it's limits...
NEVER point it at anything you don't intend to shoot....

Investments

All good investments. A dedicated range is always a good idea as it provides a safe place to practice. I too am a retired L.E.O. and department firearms instructor for 15 years. I taught the CCW class for many years for citizens in our community and always preached the 4 Cardinal Firearms Rules as well as remember, Practice Doesn't Make Perfect, Perfect Practice Makes Perfect. Enjoy your shooting time.

Although we live in the county and it is legal to shoot,we are surrounded on 2 sides by the city,so if we shoot someone will call the police and a city LEO will show up,it's just too much trouble so using a local indoor range is MUCH more convenient and safer. I don't know any DNR ranges nearby, maybe twin ponds in McClellanville, but thats a drive(25-30 miles) and it is full of Black Powder enthusiasts.

You can spend $400 on a .380 or $700 plus. I'm glad you bought something that you're comfortable with. Just look at all the $$$ we ALL spend on farkles! I paid $675. For my Sig P238. With no regrets.

Can you?

As you can probably tell from my avatar, I believe in the right to have a gun and I was a law officer. There is an important decision you need to make right now: Can you KILL someone? In the movies, the good guy shoots the gun out of the bad guy's hand or just wings him. That's the movies. You won't be able to do that in a real gun fight. You need to shoot for center mass, which should end up with a fatality.

I'm not trying to scare you, but you really need to resolve the question in your mind well before the situation arises. If you feel you need to use your gun, then use it, don't hesitate.

I'm retired LEO as well. You might want to give a retainer of about $10K to your lawyer. If you ever have to shoot someone, you are gonna need legal help immediately and for a long time afterward. Even if the grand jury clears you, be prepared for a civil lawsuit....

Not around here. We have Castle doctrine ,stand your ground laws and if you see someone in public about to murder someone else or threaten their lives our laws say you can take the perp out. Recently had 2 convenience store clerks who did not resist in robberies get murdered for no reason but thrill. I have no problem helping clean up the gene pool. Righteous shootings are cleared at the scene never heard of a grand jury for a defensive kill around here nor any civil suits.

Nice choice SDM the concealed carry course is not that hard. Most of it is going over the laws with 50 rounds shooting a target at various ranges up to 25yrds. The targets are half body size and a hit anywhere counts and all you need is 35 hits to qual.

Some States still support the second amendment.

Retired LEO here as well. I have heard and understand the Castle doctrine, however In every shooting case I have ever worked there has always been a civil suit brought by the victims family regardless if criminal charges where filed or not. Police are involved in civil suits all the time. While I endorse CCW laws and encourage everyone to be prepared to protect themselves against deadly force, know that if it becomes necessary to use deadly force your nightmare has just begun. Be careful of blanket statements by CCW instructors, they won't be with you in court.

In addition the only place to carry a concealed weapon is on your person. Hidden in your vehicle, bike, purse, etc defeats the purpose of having it at the ready.

Making the correct decision when the time comes is crucial, and that comes with training, training, training. To be honest, I'd rather be broke than dead. I know it sounds "vanilla" to some, but it could be my wife, or kids that could be truly innocent victims also... What else in life is more important?

No argument intended at all, just legitimizing life or death.

There's your popcorn Cruzr Joe [emoji1]

You made an educated decision and acted upon it. Good for you. You will likely only use your weapon for practice and sport, but if it ever does happen be ready.
