KewlMetal Helmet Locks?

NorCalBud

New member
I received a set of KewlMetal Helmet Locks (#6248) for Christmas but they don't work for my 12 RTL because they are for Kuryakyn ISO grip. I've found how to install the grips if I get them.
I've got friends who have the same type KewlMetal locks on their spyder, but theirs came with a spacer/adapter to make them work. I can't find them anywhere on the web and the KewlMetal Store site is still down...
Does anyone know what part number works directly with the RT or if I can acquire the adapter?
Thanks!

This thread started because I had a problem...Matt @ Lidlox went out of his way to supply a solution.
I gotta say that this guy knows customer service! Matt contacted ME and to say that he happened to have a set of the adapters that would make this work for me. He also gave me an option regarding the newer style locks as well. I always want options.... He stayed in constant contact and shipped first thing. The new locks are a great product and have a remarkable vendor standing behind it.
This is how its done!
Kudos to you Matt and Lidlox!

I bought my locks directly from KewlMetal over the phone. They came with the black adapters. They are made by or for KewlMetal. Unlike some other members, I found the company, easy to deal with. Contact them by phone and they will probably sell you just the black spacers.

Check Value Accessories. I think they have them. Pretty sure I saw them on their web site.

Thanks Bob. I checked their site and they only list the same ones I have and need the new grips. I tried calling KewlMetal and left them a VM....
I've found vague references to PN KEWL-534 with a couple of pics of seemingly older parts, but can't seem to locate a seller for that either....
The thrill of the hunt!!!

I did a little research for you. They "were" made by KewlMetal but they are no longer listed on KewlMetal's web site so I assume they stopped making them?

Here is a video I found that KewlMetal posted about them

I hate to say it but I think your out of luck now. Maybe ask in for sale area WTB and see if someone has a set they are willing to sell.

Big Joe bought out Matt's half of Kewlmetal and Matt is now just doing the helmet locks on his own. You can contact him. I know he said he has redesigned the lock to no longer need adapters. He will be a sponsor here too.

Ah OK that is slick. Instead of an adapter for the Kuryakyn helmet locks it looks like he made a custom lock that fits the Spyder by using the single end cap bolt. And they are in black! Very cool. I wish they had been around when I was looking for locks. I may have kept the stock grips instead of installing the Kuryakyn ISO's.

Thanks Lamont....

NorcalBud, My offer to install the grips for you still stands if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the offer Bob! With the awesome vid you and Lamonster posted on this subject, I should be able to git'r-done. While I really like the look of the ISO grips, but am very concerned about losing the "Heat" functionality by covering the original grips....So I'm torn. Anybody got a coin???
This site is the BEST and You ALL Rock!!!

The grip heaters still work with the ISO grips. It just takes longer to get hot. But there is one other issue. Because they are longer and metal, when you doing 65 down the freeway the wind over the ends sucks the heat right out of them! I either move my hands to the ends or cover the ends with a piece of innertube when I know I am going to be needingnthe heat.

These ARE cool! Better than the older KewlMetal ones. I also like the black, rather than the chrome, for the ends of the hand grips. Just ordered a pair.

...and, Lamont, thanks for posting the link!!!

Any thought on the use on an F3, will they fit? The Frunk just isn't an option.

Are there any close up pictures of the F3 grips? If a single screw up the center of the end cap holds them on like on the RT then I see no reason why they would not work!

This video shows how they are installed. Again if the F3 is the same single center screw design, it should work.

In the video he lists several models but says the F5? Probably meant the F3?

Bob

Yes, they work on the F3

I contacted Matt and asked him and he said yes, so I'll be ordering them since I loved them on my RT. There's a 15% discount for spyderlovers (code = spyderlovers).

The walk around shows the single screws in the handlebars
