• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Don't Walk Away

I ran the upgrade this evening and as I am wont to do walked away from the computer to return in some minutes to an alert to push the phone button until the warning window went away. Decided to stay and watch a few minutes later got another alert to push the intercom button, followed by still a third alert (don't remember which buttons it wanted pushed that time) after which the update was immediately complete. There's nothing more boring than watching updates, except when they go awry and set off the bosun's mate's vocabulary.

Upgrade failed on both of my units, and now I have a ticket into Sena. Units won't respond or even turn on. Sigh...

OK, I will document this issue for the group. I normally use a Mac (this thread isn't about Mac or PC bashing), and I had loaded the first software using the Mac when we got the Sena headsets. Everything worked fine.

When I tried to update the latest firmware using the update software, it locked up repeatedly, and then proceeded to freeze up the intercoms. I am no neophyte when it comes to computers or software, so I ran through a bunch of tricks to solve the problem, without success. I then sent a troubleshoot ticket to Sena.

At that point, I went back to the Internet, and did some research. It appears Macs have had some problems in the past, and a specific post on another motorcycle forum stated that Sena themselves told an owner to hook up the frozen intercoms to a PC and use that version of the software for the updates.

So, figuring I had nothing to lose, I did that. The units were dead, would not even start up when I began the process. About half way through, they turned on and I was able to complete the updates.I have since tested them on our helmets and they work fine, other than having to restart some of the bluetooth connections.

I sent an additional comment to Sena on my ticket, suggesting they might want to take the Mac version offline until they debugged it. I was lucky to have a backup PC around that I rarely use, but many people don't.

So, if you have a Mac only, I suggest going to a friend's home who has a PC, and then go to sena.com, download the PC version of the updater, and run it that way. I may never have this problem again with later updates, but it was frustrating enough not to want to do it again.

Hope this helps anyone who may experience the same problem.

counterpoint!

i almost exclusively use Macs ... in a wide assortment of devices.

I have not had a problem with any Sena update on my Mac. I run with the latest updates of both operating systems and always use the latest Sena Device Manager.

So do I, which is why I said someone may have the problem, not that all Macs would. I'm glad that you and many others may never experience the problem.

Just tried to update one of mine and it locked up tight. Waiting to hear from Sena . Well, two or three minutes after my post I got back to a blue light. Powered it down and tried again. Second time it went through without a hitch. Want to play with it a bit before update the second one just in case.

I'll wait.

Use a Mac, most new sen features I won't use, so will wait for a few months until possible bugs worked out. But, thanks for all the info everyone!
