• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Nice day out today so i decided to repack the bearings on my 2010 RT-622 Trailer,........................ Glad I did, when you take off the dust cover it looks pretty good, lots of grease and no moisture, but decided that i was gonna get it done anyway.

Outside Bearing had plenty of grease ..................... Good :D

Inside Bearing had a little grease ...............Not So Good :mad:

Total Repack = No More Concerns ..................Really Good ;)

When you check them don't rely on what you see when you pull the dust cover off ........................... Look further, it may make the difference on your next trip.

Any trailer I have ever owned I always repack the bearings. If you go to allthe trouble of removing the dust cover then you might as well repack the bearings too. I always replace the cotter pin too.

When I took delivery of my new 2010 RT 622 trailer I checked the wheel bearings and found water in the bearings and the axle nut was put on way too tight from the factory.
I always repack trailer bearings once a season or more if the trailer travels a long distance.
Just one more note I always use wheel bearing grease that is water resistant and The grease container label will say for boat trailer applications. I use Lucas Brand X-Tra Heavy Duty bearing grease because of its properties and have had good luck using it even on my RT 622 Trailer bearings. Also this grease will withstand high temperature from the wheel bearings.

I have a pair of bearing buddies that I am going install in the spring when trailer and spyder come out of winter storage.
I will still service bearings once a season. The bearing buddies will let me add bearing grease when on tours.

Not if your "season" is like mine! LOL Here is another tip, the bearings don't last 20,000 miles! :banghead: I now have a mileage log taped to the inside of the trailer lid so I can record trip mileage.

Use a log book. We did annual trailer maintenance like the book says. Whoever wrote the book has never met SpyderAnn! Now we record the miles, and repack more often than others might. It is an unbelieveable PIA to replace the swing arm, races, bearing wheel and tire; not to mention the cubic dollars to buy parts. Plan on a whole weekend, and get help. Grease those bearings! Often!
 
Joe, Keep an eye on your seals now. Once you pull the hubs there is a good chance the seals won't seal as well and may allow grease to leak, slinging around on the inside of the wheel.

I've been around boat trailers my whole life growing up at the shore. Personally, I swap all my hubs out with sure-lube hubs. They have the zerk fitting on the back side of the hub so the rear bearing stays greased better vs. Front grease bearing buddy caps. They are a bit tougher to grease but last much longer.

Did you use a synthetic grease? I use on all my trailers and never had a bearing go bad and I use it on all my toe balls.
