Corbin Trailer Hitch

Anyone got one? How is it? How did you all do the wiring? I'm looking at getting a Piggy Backer trailer for our trip in September but wanted to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I start buying stuff.

Also, how do you like the hitch? Does it perform well on long high-speed trips? Does it bog down the gas mileage a whole bunch?

I have one and it works great. Very strong and easy to bolt up I just ran the wires through my right tube.

Did you use a wiring harness or did you run the wires yourself? If you did run the wires yourself maybe a little "how-to" would be in order... I don't think a lot of people have done the trailer on the Spyder yet. When you get a chance of course, we're not in a big hurry to get this done. :doorag:

Hi Spydegirl,

When you say hi speed runs remember pulling a trailer in most states requires you to run at 55 mph legally. I've pulled mine at 70+ and occational bursts to 100. If you load the trailer right it will be very stable.

If you need any other info contact me I've pulled a trailer to the midwest and back behind my motorcycle several times.

It's the only way to travel and not overload your bike.

Sorry but CA is the only state I know of that has a 55mph speed limit on a trailer, there might be more but it's not "most states". I've been cross country a few times now with a trailer and I hate it when I get to CA. :gaah:

The fastest I've had my Bushtec on a GPS is 152mph. nojoke

:2thumbs: Nice looking trailer for the money. Would get the 12 " wheels, much better way to go. Going to look into this a little more, never thought about a trailer but for the money a pretty good buy.

I thought that you had the bushtec at first. If you don't mind, why did you switch? The bushtec looks alot sturdier with added supports coming from up above.

llinios has a 55 for trailers, and was rold by an Ill state police that they really enforce it.

The 55MPH thing was one of the reasons I didn't want to deal with the trailer, but the hubby keeps trying to talk me into it.

I do like the one with the 12" wheels, but I have to conserve money where I can and I have little concern with the size of the wheels on a trailer that I'll pull 1 - 2 times a year.

What I meant by "high speed" is long distances for long periods of time at freeway speeds 55 - 70MPH. I want to know I can pull this trailer about 2600+ miles in a 4 1/2 day period at freeway speeds without issues.

I'm still thinking about it, I don't know yet.

Hmm... darn. That is going to tricky to try to figure out. The guy at Piggy Backer told me about a Hoppy converter type deal, but I am not sure what that is. Might work.

Actually there are a few states that have this law. Having pulled a horse trailer for years there were many times we came across speed limit signs where it was 65 or 70 for regular traffic and 55 for vehicles with trailers.

As is mentioned in the article, you may be perfectly legal until you cross the state lines. If you go all the way to the bottom I believe you can look up states alphabetically.

WOW - never knew about this. I've towed a camper for years and always went 70 - never got pulled over.

I would think they should give a warning ticket for a first offense in a state considering they don't post this speed limit on signs (at least I've never seen it).

Your best bet is to look into the details of the specific law in the state you wish to visit. Michigan's 55 mph limit has exceptions, like for trailers less than 750 pounds (that's you, Deb). Don't just go by the tables on the Web sites, they are too general.

Well - I've still never seen it posted. I think they are more worried about bigger rigs - heck--- how's a cop supposed to know the weight of your trailer by looking at it?
