• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First ride ever!!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I had a ball on the ride home from the dealer. 150 miles and the adrenaline was flowing. I have a question. How do you put the beast into reverse?? The dealer had trouble doing it and they have to mail me the manual. So far I have been able to avoid needing to, but that won't last. :helpsmilie:

What model are you trying to back up?

Reverse

I'm guessing you have the SE5 or SE6 semi-automatic. If so, just press the big 'R' on the left handlebar, hold it down while you press the '-' (minus) paddle on your shifter. That should put it in reverse for you.

Please remember that several of the Spyders are different and instructions for them are different, so if you ask a question tell us which Spyder you have and if it is Manual or Semi-Automatic.

(Dealer did not know how to put it in reverse :yikes::yikes:, i am worried about this dealer working on a Spyder.)

UPDATE: they have a 2012 RT Sm5 (i can't help here)

I had a 2012RTS-SE5, " Push down on the "R" button( left side on handlebar big round black "R") and use the minus button on the paddle shifter. On your screen you will see "R" then you will know that you are in Reverse. Deanna

HI Check post # 7 on this thread. I gave you some info on "How To shift your 2012RT SM5 " in reverse. Hope this works. Deanna

I just went and dug up a thread that has access to the owner's manuals online...
It's the thread about Shop Manuals...
Just read through the posts, and it's in there.

I'd grab the link for you, but I'm on a very unfamiliar system... :opps:

HELLO ................................. they have a MANUAL TRANSMISSION............................NOT A SEMI AUTOMATIC :lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie:

My 2011 RT SM5 shifts into reverse from 1st gear. Holding the "R" button down on the left handle, move the toe shift down.

Welcome!
I hope they are able to send you the manual.
In the mean time:
Go to can-am.brp.com/Spyder/
Under OWNERS at the top chose Guides & Information
Click on Operator's Guides
Click on 2012
Click on Spyder 2012
Click on 2012 Spyder RT EN1-Operaton Guide
I would suggest you read it all before you ride.
Pay particular attention to how to properly check the oil.
Good Luck!

If you live in Rural Hall the closest Spyder dealer to you is Honda of Winston-Salem. I can almost guarantee they will be able to answer any question you have about your machine. I strongly second OP recommendations about reading the operator's guide thoroughly.

:agree: Honda of Winston Salem is a good dealership. I didn't buy me Spyder from them, but they did my laser alignment and have provided me with various accessories. Very knowledgeable people to deal with.

shifting into rverse

I have a 2010 RT sm5. Shift into first gear, hold down R button on left side and push shift pedal down again as you would be ****ing into first again. Walla you are in Reversre. To take out of Reverse just shift up like you would be shifting into 2nd gear. Walla you are out of reverse and in 1st gear. Hope this helps
