• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just got it back from the shop!

I took it in for the 13,000 mile service. This is what I had done:
1. New rear tire, a Kumho
2. Rotate front tires
3. Valve check and adjustment
4. New hi-performance plugs
5. New hi-performance plug wires
6. Replace air filter
7. Replace gas filter
8. Bemba brakes front and rear
9. Wrap pipes
10. Heat shield under seat
11. Replace radiator cowl ( I have a 2012 RT) with a 2014 cowl
12. Alignment
13. Belt tension and alignment
15. Oil change (both filters)
16. Clean rotors where I had gotten tire shine on them.
17. Clean throttle body
18. Replace a couple of missing body panel grommets
19. Replace broken mirror clip.
20. Remove corroded glo-ryders and re-install original caps.
21. Adjusted OEM shocks for one notch more pre-load

It now has noticibly more power, stops much better. It is smoother, quieter, rides better. It feels stronger and it doesn't have any more gas smell in the garage. 85 mph on the super slab with a lot of throttle left.

All-in-all, Pirate Power Sports in Riverside, California did a really excellent job.

Congrats..!!

thats a lot of work but you went to the right guy. Lou is the best around these parts. Glad your back up and running better than ever...:2thumbs::clap::ohyea:

So what did all that cost?

If there's a new BMW out front on Monday, you're in trouble....
Lou is an extremely honest, fair, hard working, and competent mechanic. I strongly doubt that would happen. I would be so stunned if it did happen that I would need to get psycho-therapy.

I am surprised that you replaced the plug wires so soon.
The Spyder was in the shop for the scheduled valve check, an oil change, and a new rear tire, and to fix the brake pads that I had messed up by getting tire shine all over them. Since, a valve adjustment was needed, and all the tuberware was off, it seemed to me to be cost effective to just do all the othe items at the same time. That way, I didn't have to pay several times to disassemble the tubberware. I knew that in 7,000 miles or so, I would want to improve the plug wires anyway, and the air filter was shot because I rode through a heavy dust storm awhile back. The gas filter is cheap, so I just added that to the list.

I replaced the plugs and wires on my wife's STL with BajaRon's set and it only has 3500kms on it. Noticable difference with the irridium plugs and 8mm wires.

Dan, I am surprised your bike needed a valve adjustment. Most do not even at twice your mileage.

Me too. But it did. I think it was partly due to poor dealer prep, but there is no proof of that.

I finally got the price. I drove over and paid him. The price was about half of what I expected. Lou was one of the head mechanics on the first few Can Am Spyder demo trucks. He is a really good guy and a ggrrreeeaaaattttt mechanic, to paraphrase Tony the Tiger.

:congrats: on the pleasant surprise! :2thumbs:
But we've all been sitting here; waiting to hear how much it was...

Interesting that the valves needed adjustment. I do not know how dealer prep would have influenced that though.
As far as I know nothing is done with that area as part of dealer prep.

I have about 2500 miles to go before my 14K service. Still debating to skip the valve check or not.
Extended warranty is good till Jan 2016 so my "internal" debate is about not doing it and then having an issue in the next year.
