• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BRP replacing windshield arm

My warranty ran out on 9/8/14. Going over the spyder as usual two weeks ago I noticed the windshield arm has a crack in it. Now I do check this often as I know they are somewhat of a problem, never saw it before this check. I brought it to the dealer last Saturday, they took some pictures. Found out today the new part is ordered and they will call when replacement comes in. This is the first issue I have had with my spyder, 12,500 miles on it, and so far I am very happy in dealing BRP and my dealer.

Another one bites the dust.......................................

I assume the new arm will look just like the old one.
Please sing out if there is any change in the design.

.:gaah:.......................Sorry to hear about this .........and you are going to be sorry to hear about this ..............There is a permanent fix for this that probably would have cost only $ 150 to $200..........This issue has been discussed extensively on Spyderlovers recently............Sorry .....Mike

I will post if the design has changed as I know everyone will be interested in this. However I am not holding my hands on my backside expecting a change. As far as a replacement from aftermarket, I do know that it exists, however for my own reasons I choose have BRP replace the unit.

Just had my windshield assembly replaced for the second time. I picked the bike up today -- no change in part number or appearance of the strut. The tech agreed with me -- why, why, why? He's replaced several and can't believe they haven't fixed it. My first strut lasted 29K, this one just 8,500 miles. Now that is truly ridiculous. I filed a complaint with NHTSA as I consider it a safety problem. When that struts breaks at speed, all heck breaks loose and could easily cause an accident.

The one on my wife's 2010 RTS broke on the way to Spyderquest. BRP would not replace it under warranty.

That's cool...

My dealer and I talked about a "Non-OEM" part. It was our mutual feeling, that unless the replacement part has been upgraded; they're more than willing to install an imporved aftermarket piece...

...Which I already have; here in my desk! :D

What dealer do you use? :dontknow: Tom :trike:

Tom, I use Two Jacks in Wilkes Barre. I have purchased three units from them and have been satisfied in every aspect from sale to service. Not all spyders, a Kawasaki and a BMW. Gypsy I agree 100% on the safety aspect of the windshield arm breaking, which is the reason I have been inspecting it, and I guess it is something I will have to do more often. I am still hoping for the best, and will do the aftermarket thing if and when it becomes necessary in the future.

Not sure where you are in PA. The second one I had replaced mentioned in my post above was done by Blackman's in Emmaus, PA. Near Allentown. The first one failed in Mississippi and we had to ride 200 mi to Nashville to get a replacement. Otherwise they both would have been done at Blackman's. Both under warranty. If you're near here, I would highly recommend Blackman's.

Well, please tell those of us who are not aware of this fix and what it entails please, as I can see this may be a problem for ne down the road.

Thanks for posting. Glad your dealer covered it under warranty.

So far---fingers crossed here. We always drive with the windshield extended a bit--so it is not riding on the bottom. Some have mentioned that this makes for less wear and tear on the bracket.

How to Video

Went to a friends place the other day, he wanted to try and install his replacement Windscreen bracket so I took along the video camera. Came up with this Video of how to install your replacment bracket. It's a bit rough around the edges but it's a first attempt at doing a video.

Cheers
