There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2010 RT SM5 Hard Shifting

2010 RT SM5 - I am finding that I have to use pretty hard pressure on the shift peddle when up or down shifting in the lower gears, including reverse. I was in reverse yesterday and found it almost impossible to get out of reverse & into 1st. I also find it very difficult to get into Neutral because it is hard to do a soft nudge out of 1at or 2nd to get into Neutral. I have roughly 30,000 miles on the Spyder. Shifting between 3rd, 4th & 5th is fine.

Any thoughts?

Mark, I'm running in to the same thing on my 2012 SM5. Especially during long rides. My clutch fluid is fine. Even changed it. It's not all the time though. As soon as I can I'm going to check the shift lever. Been riding a lot the past few days so haven't been able to check it out. I have less than 20,000 on mine.

With the spyder turned off and the tranny in 5th. Pull in on the clutch and see if you can move/push the spyder.

First check the shift peddle for abnormal play. Next check the GBPS (Gearbox Position Sensor) it may need adjustment. Then check your clutch. Dose it you feel soft or squishy? Is the clutch master cylinders reservoir full? If you hold the clutch in for long time, like in heavy traffic in gear, does the bike feel like it wants to move or creep forward? It also could be in the shifting system, but The most problems that I have heard was problems with the clutch master cylinders and slave cylinders leaking. Make sure you have the engine full of oil, because the engine oil used for the engine and transmission.

Here's the thing..!!

clutch fluid level/condition would cause the spyder to jump when engaged or gears to grind. There is a vaccum assit to the clutch that can make the pressure needed to pull it vary. I would check the linkage and the oil level/condition first. Clutch plates may be sticking so once oil is warmed up they work better and the gear ratios are smaller as you go up to 5th making those shifts easier. Gear position sensor will not affect shifting....

What result are we looking for?
If you can not move the spyder then the problem is likely clutch related. If you can move it the problem is likely in the gearbox itself.

Keep in mind that you can shift an SM pretty easily without the clutch just by blipping the throttle with constant pressure on the shift lever.
So if shifting is difficult doing that it would also point at the gearbox and not the clutch.

Oil level and position sensor don't play a part in the SM shifting/feel.
