• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BRP (tire police)

I had Discount Tire put on two Bridgestone Potenzas on the front over a year ago. I couldn't get the lug nuts off. Then this past Winter I ordered a tire for the rear with no problems.
I had Hazel and Darcy help me put the tire on after a local Wally World mounted the tire.

I'm getting great milage from the tires.

Someone with knowledge should see if there is a BRP "Bulletin" pertaining to the use of car tires on the Spyders.
We all just have to hear this from the horses mouth.

However, I can see tire companies reluctance to sell as well. Even though they fit and people on here have been using them with no issues, the potential for liability seems wide open seeing that there is no specific listing for the Spyder other than a general tire size.
At this point, group buying in four lots might be a very good idea to avoid the 20 question/ denial game.

Someone with knowledge find this bulletin? and the tensioner bulletin?

This really would not be a problem if the Kenda OEM tires were not complete junk.... My front tires failed on my 2014 RT at 8000 miles and the rear tire at 10000 miles. My car tire replacements already have 13000 and 11000 respectively and show no signs of wear. Having said that, it might be better if we drop these continuous threads on this topic and simply go quietly about our business
PM's would be a better way to go.

I'm pretty stoked at the idea of getting 8 - 10k miles from a tire. I was burning through motorcycle tires in 6k on the Concours and FJR.

I am quite confident that BRP had nothing to do with your problems in acquiring a tire for your Spyder. The liability in this litigious world is too great for a company to sell you a tire that is not recommended for your vehicle. Most will not sell you an automotive tire if you tell them that you're going to put it on a Spyder.

By the same token, many businesses will not mount the tire for the same reason.

Since automotive tires are quite a bit stronger than the BRP tires and the mounting edge is identical, there isn't any factual reason not to mount one of these tires for these reasons. Rubber compound, tread pattern and traction (wet/dry) are potential reasons that a specific automotive tire is not suitable for the Spyder.

I've purchased tires from both Discount Tire and The Tire Rack for non-recommended applications, no problem. But I didn't tell the what the tires were for.

It isn't BRP.

What Ron says is correct. The only other possible issue I have heard from a car tire store is that they are concerned that a lighter weight (cheaper made) wheel might not hold up to their tire mounting equipment without damage, which they would then have to replace.

I have tried to order tires from both Discount tire and tire rack and was refused. It seems that BRP told them that car tires are not strong enough for motorcycles and the tire must be bike specific so as not to be liable. They have used scare tactics with the tire stores.

Three tries from Discount tire and twice from tire rack. (refused)
Finally decided to change size (215/60/15) and ordered a Michelin Hydroedge. Shipped the next day and no questions asked.
Other SL are using them with no problems,
I will never buy tires from BRP again.

How did they know what you were going to put it/them on?

Doesn't everyone just use olive oil???? :dontknow:
Canola...
I find that it doesn't foam up as much in the oil tank, as the Dino-Squeezins' do!
