Massive oil leak on new 2014 RT

Just put 100 miles on my new 2014 RT and oil is everywhere: garage floor, right bag, muffler and completely covered underneath. I did not receive any error codes and my oil light did not appear, but only a 1/4 inch appears on the dipstick when hot. The bike is a mess!! The dealer claims they have never seen anything like this on the 2014's. No clue as to where it's coming from. Thoughts??

I want to thank everybody for the constructive input concerning my oil leak. The dealer traced it to an allen head set screw near the transmission that was leaking badly. Apparently this screw is factory sealed with high temp Locktight sealant but has worked loose on some machines. At least one other Spyder owner experienced the same problem, had it resealed and driven over 6,000 miles without a problem. I have a loaner and will pick up my Spyder tomorrow afternoon after the sealant has set up. Let's hope this ends the oil problem.
Thanks again

This sounds like a dealer issue. You mention new RT--dealer prep issue maybe?

I note you also had oil issues with a 2012 RT posted in 9/2013. Am guessing this is not the machine you are talking about here.

Keep us posted.

The oil issue was from a situation of overfilling on my 2012, this is massive. Tomorrow I will hear from the dealer once they remove the plastic. Needless to say I'm very concerned with only 100 miles.

DIDYOU ????

Ever remove the Dipstick ??????......................Mikeguyver .......If not , you may want to check to see if they ever tightened it correctly in the first place. It would be in your best interest if you found this out. They might not want to admit to it .....just sayin !

Let's see..!!

that pesky little bolt situation a while back had similar out comes. Could be they missed it but hot oil spreads wide and far even if not much. First step is a cleaning then hunting down the source of this leak. Your dip stick, if memory serves me, is under the seat now. This is looking like a low leak. This is an issue for the dealer. We are interested in the outcome for sure..:lecturef_smilie:

Mine had a similar problem. BRP fixed it at Spyderfest. It had something to do with the wrong type of Loctite used on a bolt down by the transmission. I dropped it off at the BRP tent and was given a loaner bike. It takes 24 hours for the correct sealant to set up. No problems in the ensuing 6000 miles

Some of the early 2014 RTs had trouble keeping the oil where it belonged; when was your bike built?
Your paperwork will have this information.
Otherwise; I'd also guess that the dealer missed an important step along the way!

Just purchased 8/25/14. I have puddles on the garage floor, garage and obviously all underneath and on the right rear bag.

When you bought the bike; you should have received a copy of the Manufacturer's Statement of Origin... (M.S.O.) That's the document that the State pulls the information off of in order to produce the Title...
The build date is always on the M.S.O., AND the title... (At least Titles produced here in Noo Yawk...)

This oil leak is so bad I have puddles in the garage, driveway and all underneath the bike. Also, the bag on the right side is covered. I'm waiting to hear from the dealer this AM. With this massive amount of oil, I cannot imagine it coming from a leaky bolt, I really think something blew.

:gaah::gaah::gaah:...Considering what you just stated ...........HAVE YOU CHECKED THE ...DIPSTICK YET ....AS SUGGESTED ? ? ? ?> Mikeguyver

Yes, both myself and the dealer have removed the dipstick several times and that seemed to be a no brainier. That would have been great if indeed it was the dipstick. As I stated, this is massive as if a bolt or part came out and not just loosened.

:agree: It REALLY is time for you to start eliminating the obivous and easy possibilities, that you can...

Yes, I agree and waiting for the dealer to contact me this am. This is my 3th Spyder, obviously I do love the darn machine but have had some minor problems in the past, but this is overwhelming.

Bob - Residents of the Great Northwet are deemed by the State to be too stupid to ever see that documentation, and the original must be sent to Mother Oregon to receive a title. No copies are permitted....

The number 2 2014 Spyder delivered in the US had an engine blow and spew oil as you describe. BRP took the bike back so Rotax could study the engine and replaced it with a brand new Spyder. If this turns out to be that serious, you may still be made quite well
