There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Just added a Utopia back rest to my 2014 rts spyder, easy install and greatly improved the comfort of spyder, Black and gray in color and matches rest of seat perfectly.Very nice product with quality construction lots of adjustment. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to improve comfort of thier ride.

Thanks for the report. I've got to get me one of those. I believe it's one of the few options I have for adding a backrest to my 2013 tan colored BRP Comfort Seat.

Thanks for the report! I have one on order (ships on the 28th) so I am looking forward to getting it.

Did you get the factory mount with it or have to cut and drill?

On a 2014, the plug in the seat is removed and trimmed a bit. You make a slit through the foam, and the Utopia mount screws into four pre drilled screw holes. The backrest then bolts on to the mount.

I have one on mine and like it a lot. I bought the accessory a month and a half before my 2014 even arrived.

2014 RT Backrest

I traded my 2012 RT A&C for a 2014 RTS last weekend. Only 100 miles so far, but WOW - what a ride!

I want to add the driver backrest and saw the Utopia seat online, but also saw the Show Chrome Accessories Smart Mount Backrest on line too. The above sings the praises of the Utopia, but has anyone has experience with the Show Chrome? And any perspective on the BRP OEM, which is way more expensive?

BRP vs. Utopia: The BRP is not adjustable unless you add washers etc. The BRP gives you a more firm back support. The BRP costs about twice as much. Those that have the BRP and posted, seem to like it a lot.

I was looking at the show chrome as well but determined that it did not fit the 2014s. Double check before you buy; the utopia does fit and that's why I went with it though it's more than the S chrome.

Utopia

I just ordered a Utopia for my RT-S. I've had this product on all my Wings, & it is needed on the Spyder. MarcusB

Utopia Backrest installed

I installed the Utopia Backrest a few months ago and very happy I did. Took me a couple of hours but I read the instructions 3 times and cut and drilled once, sense you only get one shot at it. I received some pointers from them via email before ordering it and they were very useful. They ship when promised and received when expected in great condition with full set of instructions. I have since added sheepskin to the seat at the request of my wife and I have to say I'm glad she requested it. Much more comfortable, especially with the heat in Florida. We will have to wait to see how the cool winters go. New backrest installed.jpgSheepskin installed.jpg

One last question on this.

Does the Utopia provide for adequate clearance for the rider's legs? Really want it more for long rides where my bride is sitting behind me. The OEM looks like it's slimmer at the bottom to provide more rider leg clearance.

Thoughts?

My wife is on the small side 5/2 118 lbs she has enough leg clearance but it is tight even for her. If I had the comfort seat that moves the driver back 2" I don't think she would have enough room to get comfortable. Hope this helps

Would love to hear about the sheepskin source. Might need to get that for my RT.

OK, with this feedback, I think I lean to the BRP OEM backrest. My wife's a tad larger than the response above (Don't let her know I said this).

Anyone have any experience with the BRP OEM Backrest with passenger leg clearance?

The place that is cramped on the Spider Rt with Etopia backrest is from the back of the back rest to the back of passenger seat I have to have the Etopia backrest adjusted all the way back because of being 6'2", as for as leg room there is plenty for her just saying if I had the comfort seat which is really an option from BRP she may not have enough room. The add from BRP states that the 2014 rts comes with a comfort seat but it is not the one listed in thier accessory catologe which moves the driver back 2". This is all explained on Etopia's web page

Be sure and set on a spyder with the BRP backrest, The dealer had one installed on a rts when I bought mine and it moved me so far forward I was uncomfortable could not figure out how to adjust it back with out heating and bending the down rods which I had to do on a Harley back rest that I had. Back rest is to expensive to put heat to and take a chance of messing it up. Remember though that I am 6' 2", so you may or may not have the problem I had with it.

The space left for a passenger after installing a Utopia on an OEM seat is only for those who are not to large. A 118# person should be pretty good. Beyond that, ???

A comfort seat would be worse since you have lost an additional 2" of space for the passenger.

A bit more space for a larger passenger might be something that BRP should consider for the "touring" crowd at least. Not every family can have a :spyder2: for each ryder.
