Brake Problems with Warped Rear Rotor and excessive Brake Squeeling

I have a 2013 ST-Limited and have been experiencing a groaning noise that I can hear from the back brake when taking off and just coasting to a stop. When I brake it pulses really bad to the point is is uncomfortable. I really notice it when I have a passenger. My Dealer has looked at it twice and on the second return visit all they did is measure rear rotor thickness and never measured the run out. I am so upset as this Dealer in Barrie, Ontario is not the selling dealer for my bike but is happy to do the retail work. I guess they feel comfortable telling me to measure it and let them know what I find. On my last visit when they called me to pick up the bike because they can't find the problem again, I asked them to specifically measure run-out, They measured thickness only! Why? What does this tell you other than discard size! I see the total run out allowable is .0039" My dealer says they find nothing. My main question here is the following; Is there others that experience problems with brake pulsation on the 2013 ST's ? If so what was your experience in getting BRP/Dealer to resolve this issue. The dealer says loud brake squeal during stopping " Normal" It's loud enough to alarm people sitting is cars. When I first purchased the bike it was perfect, Not a single issue and stopping was smooth as glass. I have been feeling this Brake Pulsation and Noise since I had my first 1K maintenance service now I have over 5K and its just getting worse. Sorry for being so long winded, just very frustrated with this problem. Any ideas ,suggestions for help, any suggestions are welcomes as I want this fixed promptly and permanently by BRP.

Tough one..!!

you could check the run out yourself or any machine/mechanic shop could do it. You could check disk for hot spots or simply use some fine emory cloth to clean up the disk. Check the pads and sand them off as well. Check pads for embeded debris. Check that rear wheel is aligned properly. Things they should have done. If you have another dealer take it to them..sorry most of these suggestions are do it yourself and being an ST is well in warranty and being brakes seems dealer would help more...jmo...:gaah:

No Brake issues as of yet

I have 5K Miles on my STL and have had no brake issue yet.
I think Baja Ron sells upgraded brake pads and rotors food for thought if your dealer doesn't help you out.

I plan on measuring the run out myself and taking some pictures of my results just to show them what I am experiencing is factual. I will probably have to go to the selling dealer for any other service as I have lost faith in the dealers ability to diagnosis, contact BRP for direction and perform repairs. I will post the run-out reading here as well. I do like the upgrade idea. I will be using aftermarket parts for this going forward. The idea of hot spots might just be defects in the rotor which should be warranty. I am sure my Dealer in Peferlaw,ON will look after me\, its just three times further away. Thanks for these ideas.

Just a quick update. I did call BRP Customer service and explained my situation. The Rep took all the notes and they started a case file for me and made some recommendations to go back to the closer dealer or my Selling dealer. I called the dealer in Barrie and spoke to their Warranty Manager and he is more than willing to help me and apologized for the lack of concern shown so far. I will make some measurements to speed up the process and give the results to him by e-mail so they can save me time and order the parts that I need. I mentioned the caliper sticking and they will be in touch with BRP to solve it. I was happier to hear someone is finally wanting to help. Next step is to get BRP the paperwork, Measure the run-out and book an appointment to get this fixed up. This brake sqealing is driving me crazy too. Hope they can fix both issues. Crossing my fingers and will let everyone know how we fix it.

I now have my bike in with my dealer, Quinn's Marina in Peferlaw Ontario. They listened to my issues and are happy to help me. My sales guy Joe is letting me Demo an RT Ltd while my bike is in. I gave them my measurements of .004" in the RH front, .005 in the LH front and .008 in the Rear rotor. I didn't realize how bad it was until I rode this RT! It's smooth as glass when stopping. The other issues I raised were the softness in the suspension, so I would like the shock package changed to 2014 standards to aid the bottoming out and the excessive sway when riding on windy days. I mentioned the ball joints as well as it wanders and the steering seems very loose compared to the RT. Wow found the ride so much more stable on this RT. With rotors changed, wheels checked for out of round as my hands are falling asleep from the vibration around 4800 to 5K on the hi-way, shocks replaced to stiffen the soft suspension my ride should be so much better than before it should be back to how BRP intended it and how I bought it. I am grateful that I have an awesome dealer that is helping sort out the few problems I have on my bike. I hope to have it back this week and will tell you all about what they did and the results. Love the ST Limited its really awesome!, we just need to sort out some new model stuff.

I have had my bike in for 3 weeks and this is what they did for my issues, The replaced all the rotors, I had them put replacement pads on front and rear. So far the squealing is solved. The pulsation is finding it's way back and I have only about 200km since picking it up yesterday. Not sure why other than 2 up riding is too much for these small rotors. Could EBC be an answer? They replaced my front shocks and springs with the Fox Podium units and WoW! what a difference! The also replaced the tires as they were out of round! The handle bar vibration has diminished considerably. I am very happy with all the work my dealer did for me. Thanks to BRP for being there for a customer and supporting the Dealer in solving my issues.

Did they do all this with no cost to you?
