Beautiful weather but no RT. :-(

Couldn't ask for better riding weather along the coast however the '14 RT is in the shop for warranty work. :( I'm hoping to get her back by next weekend  or else I will drive my family nuts, LOL.

The RT has 2,500 miles on it and with SITR fast approaching, I thought it best to get the frunk issues (key malfunction & wet frunk), side luggage locks sticking and rear air shock possible leak (base RT model) fixed. I'll probably have the dealer do the first oil change and am looking into the Tri-axis handle bars - if the shop has to replace the ignition switch then it shouldn't be that much more labor to swap out the bars??

It's going to be a loooonnnggg sunny weekend at home...........sigh.......

Bummer..!!

timing is everything. But...not always in your control. Dealers backup etc sometimes messes with the ryding opportunities. Hope your ryde will be ready soon..hope to be at SITR as well...:2thumbs:

Feel your pain

Mine is in to get the shift switch replace, won't get it back till next week. Luckily I still have the vstar, so all the nice weather is not wasted.

Did you check with your dealer to see that they had the proper oil filters for your 2014? After I brought mine in--they told me no oil filters until September. nojoke

I had to purchase my oil change kit from a big dealer in the lower 48. Bought two just to be safe.

Bringing mine back in Monday to have the oil change and the trunk worked on. They looked at the trunk two weeks ago, talked with BRP, and are going to "play around with it" to see if they can fix it without parts. If they have to order parts, probably another two weeks turnaround again. At least I can drive mine with the wonky trunk switch.

This is the first :spyder2: I have purchased where there now seems to be "dealer issues" involved. No change in dealer--but the servicing has surely changed.

Yes akspyderman, I did check with the dealer before I took the Spyder down, after reading your earlier posts about non-availability of the filters. My dealership had plenty and is more than happy to sell me the extra filters for future oil changes, when I pick up the Spyder. At 150 miles each way, I want to make sure everything is there so I have less down time.

Now, back to the frunk. I know you had ignition switch issues with the frunk too, why didn't they change the ignition switch earlier? I'd sure like to know what you find out about yours, if you don't mind..........

When I made my appointment about the frunk, I was under the impression the ignition switch had been changed prior to shipping from the factory - however the service manager found out there was still an "open campaign" on my Spyder. I asked if the faulty latching system was causing a misalignment with the frunk lid, which lets the water into the frunk. The manager has submitted 2 technical questions to BRP but has not heard back from them, and i don't know if those questions are related to the frunk or to the suspected rear air shock leaking (base RT model). The shop was closed 2 extra days this week because of the 4th of July so I'm thinking I won't get answers or it back (fingers crossed) until the following week.

RE: Frunk. I think it all boils down to no one wants to order parts until they absolutely need them. No matter if we the :ani29: owners have to wait weeks for them. The dealer, playing e-mail tag, with BRP to get answers to technical questions, is also becoming one of my pet peeves.

What scares me now, is what is going to happen if something major happens with my :spyder2:. For 6 years now, I have been signing the praises of my dealer. I find I am singing a bit less these days when it comes to service issues.

Glad your dealer has the filters. A few chimed in and found themselves in my shoes also. It does appear that not stocking "must have" repair parts, was partially involved in my situation.

I will keep those interested, apprised of the situation once I get the "frunk issue" solved to my satisfaction.

Frunk/ignition update

Got a call from the dealership saying that the frunk ignition switch that was not operating correctly has been fixed and there was no need to replace the ignition components.

The service manager said after that they checked, lubed, tested, undid and redid cables and whatever (playing around with it, I thought of you akspyderman) and consulted with BRP, that they were able to get the frunk latch to operate flawlessly. As to the water in frunk, everything appears aligned properly and the frunk gap looks to be the same as the RT's on the sales floor; they will tighten up the frunk slightly to see if that will help.

The tri axis bars are being installed and they will do the first service on it - hopefully it will be ready on Saturday.

:agree: Thanks for the update.

RE: Frunk switch My dealer is still in the "consultation" process with BRP. The dealer service manager has also went "pro active" in that he has ordered the switch parts--just in case. I am 30 days or so into the saga so far--but at least I can ryde my :spyder2: and can get the frunk switch to work if I fiddle with it enough.

Update to the Update

I get a call from the service manager tonight who saw issues with the ignition switch as they were almost done installing the tri axis handlebars on my '14 RT. Now the ignition/frunk switch won't work at all so he will order new ignition tomorrow morning and said he did not feel comfortable with me taking my RT until it was fully operational.

I'm sad I won't have the Spyder back for another week, but very glad the dealership wants to get it right before we leave for SITR.

Will post what happens next. :sour:

Quite frankly your dealer should provide you with a loaner while they have your bike in the shop.
