There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lived in Duluth MN and Ashland WI for years. :spyder2:'s were not invented yet.
The tour is very beautiful. The North Shore of MN and the Canadian portion of the tour are the most beautiful. The 300 miles or so bottom part of the tour are not near the lake. It takes you through the UP. Interesting place for sure.
You now need a Passport to enter Canada. Bring along gear for cold weather. When the wind decides to come off Lake Superior, you can encounter temperature drops of 20 + degrees in a half hour or so. The temperature of Lake Superior does not exceed 40 degrees.

We did the Circle Tour last summer. The rumors are true. It was totally awesome.
We started from a southern suburb of Minneapolis, went to Duluth, circled Lake Superior clockwise, and around back to Duluth to "officially" close the loop, then back home. We stopped at all the parks, sites, and lookouts. We took 8 days. All said and done, we put in 2000 miles. I heard someone say they did it in 3 days, but you really gotta like riding over and above everything else, like appreciating nature.

We went down in to the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. One way in, same way back. But worth it.
We didn't drive in to Neys Provincial Park and regret not doing that.
Watch your fuel usage. I'm a big guy and was pulling an RT622 trailer full of luggage, and supplies. There were a few times the fuel light was on for longer than made me comfortable. Locate the gas stations ahead of time.
Back in the U.S, we went up to Whitefish Point and visited the Shipwreck museum. We saw the recovered Bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Interesting other things there as well. Saw another Spyder in the parking lot.
I recommend going up to Copper Harbor. Lots of hills and curves through heavy forests.

Munising, MI is another great spot along the south shore of Lake Superior...Pictured Rocks National Shoreline...it's like the Grand Canyon right on the shore of our great lake! Boat tours and you can drive into the park and hike around a bit. I agree that you need to go out to the Sleeping Giant, it is a beautiful provincial park.

We've done it in the SUV but not on 3 wheels. Yet. We're headed for Sault St. Marie the last of June. Once again in SUV as my surgically repaired left thumb still not working rght.

We're looking to start early July after the 4th. We'll probably start from Petoskey in the LP and then on to the UP. We've toured along the south shore of Superior last year. Visited Grand Marais, Munising (took the Pictured Rocks boat ride, awesome!), Baraga, Copper Harbor and then Porcupine. We also ferried to Drummond. We'll go clockwise to keep the lake on our right. I've got several books and websites I'm researching the route. We plan on at least 10 days to take our time. Any comments are always welcome.

The route is about 1,350 miles, 3 states and Canada.sounds like an amazing tour...how long does it take..?? Sounds like you do need to be prepared...hyea:

Yup you do :thumbup: I go to Canada at least once a year and I find some of the nicest people and prettiest country up there. It's really neet to have a foreign country so close and accessible. This year I'm doing the Gaspe, next year Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

I agree with the other post....The circle tour is beautiful.....once we started from Sault saint Marie...did white fish, pictured rocks, and the dunes, Copper harbor, international Falls, Duluth, Thunder Bay...when we got to Nipigon...we turned left....traveled 11 to 17 to Ottawa and into Ogdensburg NY....that was absolutely gorgeous....so a couple of years later we went back and did the circle tour....if you see a gas station ...get gas.....hotels were easy....we never made reservations...not really sure where we are going to end up.....take your time...stop and see the sites.....lots of Indian culture...interesting

Early June one year and it was cold and wet.....next time it was late June and the weather was much better...not wet....but comfortable riding with summer jacket and t-shirt.....it stays daylight until like 10pm.....if no reservations....I would start looking for room about 6 or 7 pm...just to be safe....so early July should be good weather....

We got the pass card this time. Cheaper and faster return. It's good for Canada, Mexico, and Carribean. With the world in its current state, we would not think of going anywhere else.
