• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ST SE5 Tail Light assembly and heat question

Questions

New member
Does anyone know, on the tail light assembly, which wire goes to which function? There is a black, which I assume is ground, but there's a white (which stays white after the junction) and a grey (which become orange after the junction). One is tail light and one is brake, but I don't know which. I'm looking to splice into them for an LED strip light addition on the back.

My new 2013 ST is holding at 5 bars on the heat meter, whether I'm at low or higher speeds, hot or cool day, so far. Is that where it should be running??

Many thanks!

Don't know..!! and yes..!!

On the wiring black is ground, red is power. As to those you speak of I just tap in and see. If constant with ign on it's running if ing on and only lights with brake applied then brake..:hun: But as for heat bars your running in the normal range. Over 5 and your starting to overheat. Good luck with the lights..

LED Strip lights

:lecturef_smilie: Don't forget...
We'll need to see some pictures of the completed project :D; Good Luck! :2thumbs:

Thanks JWulf, Coz, Sarge, Chupaca and Bob.

I was planning on putting the LEDs on license plate extensions (one on each side of the plate) but that is an awfully big chasm from the license plate to the brake lights. Not entirely sure how to bridge that "great divide". I may put them on the back edge of the passenger grips. I'll post a photo (if successful!)

Success

With thanks again to those who helped point out which wire went to what light...

A successful install of the RIVCO S.O.M.A. LED Tail & Brake Light Kit. I mounted them to the backs of the passenger hand grips. When you hit the brakes, they flash for five seconds, then go solid while the brake is pressed. They act as tail lights otherwise (not turn signals) and are very bright, noticeable even in bright sunlight.

The wires are bundled tightly in the tail/brake light area, so you have to work to find enough slack to make the splices. You'll also need some glue (I used Liquid Nails) to get them to adhere to the rubber grips as the adhesion strip on the back of the LEDs is not nearly strong enough. Other than that, not a bad install.

Nice and very Smart. Posi-taps are great for tapping into wires and you can double up 2 Positive or ground wires together in each tap as long as the 2 wires are the same function.

LED Light install

Looking great and will they apply on my RT?

I see no reason why they wouldn't work on an RT. The kit comes with a variety of wire splice devices. With the wires being as tightly packed as they were, while I ended up using some of the included devices, in one case I had to go with good 'ol twist-together-and-cover-with-electrical-tape method.

Under the back end of the seat is a nice, empty rectangular-shaped bracket that serves nicely as the place to put the flasher device (about the size of a matchbox) and tuck in the spaghetti of wires when you're done.
