Spyder ST good?

I've gotten a fairly favorable offer to trade for my 2008 RS for the 2013 ST limited. Are they solid machines? I seen fire and heat issues but is that the minority? Is the ST slated to get the new motor and tranny next year and the 13's will be a bastard year? Don't wanna trade into a unwanted rig. Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Yes they are good I have been enjoying my 2013 st. The only issue I have had was a bad battery I have 1300 miles on it now. As far as I know there not going to put a bigger engine in the 14's

ST

I'm more than happy with my 2013 ST Limited, The dealer fitted Fox podium shocks to the front as agreed by BRP for New Zealand spyders. I'm in the throws of "personalising" it, but saying that there was nothing wrong with the stock item, it comes with all the whistle's and bells that I needed apart from the backrest which I fitted once I knew the wife was happy on the back.
I'm looking forward to many happy years riding it.

I found it funny that you said "whistles and bells", and here in the northern hemisphere we say "bells and whistles" makes sense...LOL

Sorry, these small things amuse me. lol

ST ROCKS

I really like my STL I like the way it tracks on the freeway compared to my Wife's 2011 RT it sits lower and is more aerodynamic than the RT
both of our bikes are pretty much stock with no upgrades to the suspension however I have purchased a Baja Ron sway bar for my STL to help it in the corners and have had discussions with the wife about getting one for her RT to help with the wind buffeting.
I think the ST is a nice upgrade or should I say option between the RS and the RT I have not had any heat related issues so far at 5K miles although living in the northwest we really don't get the hot weather that people get in the more southern states . I really kinda hope they don't get rid of the V twin motor as it's a pretty well proven engine and yes I have heard rumors of BRP putting the ACE 3 cylinder engine in the ST but nothing has been officially released and since the ST is now in it's second year of production 2013 and 2014 it isn't in the one off category.
the deals that BRP is offering look pretty sweet from where I am sitting. If I were you I would go for it and not look back as there will always be another better newer faster more improved model coming out that you could wait for, or you could add that new ST to your Spyder collection next week your choice.

As I see it..!!

there were some issues on a few models and some mods to correct them. They are great machines but I don't see them putting the triple/six speed in it yet. If any get that change it would be the ST maybe in the future. Your choice in the end, is it worth it, do you need it...good luck..

Is the radio on the ST limited loud enough that you can hear it while at cruising speed? How about for the passenger?
I see that they say "premium unleaded" as the recommended fuel. I've always run 87 octane in my RS. Could I run that in the ST?

What accessories would interchange between my RS and the ST?
Hindle exhaust?
Passenger backrest?

I am also thinking about the ST to replace my RT But I would do whatever you have to do to Test Drive the ST before switching so you find out how it handles , the Radio sound and All those things!
It would be a shame to switch without trying and find out you made a Big mistake??:dontknow:

Unfortunately I'm handicapped and wouldn't trust myself with only the foot pedal to bring the beast to a stop. I had to buy my RS based on my friends opinion and then sit at home and wait for the ISCI handbrake kit to show up.

Had the same issue. Without left hand brake/throttle I couldn't even try it, but I'm glad I took the risk, my STS is great!

I tested one back in November of 2012, and was VERY impressed with the ride and handling of it! :2thumbs:
There was a bit more wind on my shoulders, than I was used to on my RT, and that was the ONLY thing that I found to complain about...

ST

I have just turned 10000 miles on my ST-S and love it. For me, the RT was too big and the RS sitting position I didn't like. The ST-S is just right!

All the posts so far are on the positive side. Good deals abound on the 2013's. You have done some reading and know about issues that have been discussed on the site. There is no guarantee that the machine you get will be perfect--but that is the same with everything else life hands you.

It is going to be your call.

Good deals and four year warranties on 2013 ST! In the UK there's £1,250 off the STS and £2,500 off the ST Ltd from BRP, plus whatever you can screw out of your dealer.

To me the ST is perfect. I might be a cripple, but I'm nowhere near old enough to ride an RT and I just can't contort myself on to an RS. Then there's any number of options you can add to match the luggage capacity and accessorisation of an RT, much of which cones with the Ltd package.

As regards the '13 ST's issues, a four year warranty must go along way to ease your mind.

I think that your passenger backrest might work I would ask the dealer and if it doesn't they make a new taller backrest that a top case can mount to. As for the stereo at cruising speed say 60 mph it gets hard to hear unless you have it cranked up pretty loud my wife thinks that my STL actually has better speakers than her 2011 RT I would only run the premium unleaded as specified in the owners manual not to sure about the Hindle? someone else might know as there are a lot of Farkle fanatics on SL
I have added an extra wide calsi wind shield that I typically keep at the lowest setting so I can still see over the top of it and it has really cut down on the wind in the face and road noise bugs in the teeth and if it rains
