There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2014 RT recall

Got a call from my dealer yesterday informing me that our new 2014 RT-S had a "possible" recall. :yikes: The mechanic wanted to know the numbers on the "little black piece of plastic" that was on the ignition key ring. The recall was for the ignition key not fitting properly or failure to turn, and for directional signals that were blinking at the wrong frequency. After looking I informed him that I had no such piece of plastic and hence asked if he couldn't just use our serial number to see if we were included in this recall. He said his service manager told him to use the numbers on the black plastic. I asked if he would look into why he just couldn't use the serial number (which they have), and he said he would look into it.
We've had no problem with the key turning and the blinkers are blinking, so I'm inclined to wait till my 3,000 mile check up to get more info. Our dealer is a 120 mile round trip .
Has anyone else heard about this recall or know about the "little black piece of plastic"?

The plastic they are referring to was attached to the keys via a zip strip. Mine says Spark on one side and 1912 on the other side.

The little plastic tag is delivered on one key ring or the other. If neither of your keys has it, either the dealer or the owner removed it. Our dealer warned us not to loose ours.

Ours is 1750, so when will we find out who is on the recall list?

 "Spark", and "1998" here...
Can somebody find out where we can look up the numbers that go with the affected pieces?

Yes, the code on that black piece of plastic is your key code, and all the companies I have trained for do not reference that number against the VIN on purpose. On most PDI forms there is a place to hand write it on the form so that there is a record at the selling dealer, but it is often not recorded there (just like most of us don't write it in the owners manual). The only saving grace to this after so many of you have posted your key code here is that with the key using the transponder I can't just get a blank key cut and go steal your byke.

Mine's still in shop...

Hi. I was left "stranded" by my brand new 2014 RT-S just over a week ago. I'd only ridden it twice totaling a whopping 175 miles! I stopped for my first fill-up and, at first, the key wouldn't open the latch for the seat. After I pulled the key out and re-inserted it, the key wouldn't turn at all. Despite reinsertions, jiggling, etc., it wouldn't budge. I called the dealership and the fellow said it was a "known issue." Several hours later, a tow truck arrived to take my bike back to the dealership. I've been told they're having to replace the whole ignition assembly. As you might imagine, I'm not a happy camper. I don't recall seeing a piece of black plastic, but it might be the sleeve in which my key fits when it's not being used - I'll look when I get home. Nonetheless, no one ever asked me for a number on it, so I don't know if this is the same issue. The dealership fellow told my husband that there have been four instances of this reported nation wide. I don't know the point at which the company decides to initiate a "recall," but perhaps this is it. I would highly recommend getting your's checked out. Since the 2014 is completely electronic, it won't budge without being turned on. The tow truck fellow had to get creative with dish soap and water to get it to slide onto the trailer. If we'd been in dirt, it would probably still be there! Don't get stranded. Good luck.

Just checked mine and it has spark on one side and 2036 on the other! I also checked the holders that the extra key fits in and the words Spark appears on both sides of each holder!
