Wired Communication

My 2014 RT doesn't have a drivers plug for wired audio. There is one for the passenger.
Is this a feature or a defect?

Those connectors/plugs come free of charge when you purchase the BRP CB/Communications System for $800. However, I am not sure what you are referring to as the passenger wired audio plug. Here are some pictures of the front and rear DIN wired audio connectors/plugs. Hope these help.

That's the plug I'm referring to. So, my 2014 RT Ltd doesn't come with this. A plug will cost $800? lol
I guess they want everyone to use Bluetooth!

Fred ... are you saying that you already have the passenger audio connector ?

It's directly under the left rear speaker, at the rear of the hand grip, and has a spring loaded cap.

The passenger and front audio connectors shown in Steve's photos are integral to the Entertainment Harness which must be purchased in addition to the CB & Communications System.

The passenger audio connector is part of the entertainment harness, a separate accessory. Do you have XM radio? The entertainment harness is required for the XM radio and/or the CB radio but is not functional unless you have the CB. The headset signals, including intercom, are part of the CB unit, not the primary audio unit. The driver headset connector is included with the CB radio. What I don't know is if the entertainment harness is part of the LTD configuration or not. If it is, and you do not have XM or CB, the passenger headset connector is nothing more than decoration.

My bad, Winger is correct. The front DIN connector is part of the CB/comm System. The rear DIN connector is part of the Entertainment Harness, which costs another $130. Like Winger says, if you have XM, then you would have a rear DIN connector and not a front one. Thanks for correcting info.

FYI I bought the entertainment harness to get Bluetooth. I also have XM. But I'd really like that front plug!

MASS CONFUSION????

Ok gentlemen, I have ordered a 2014 RT LTD and used to ride a Goldwing so my helmets have the 5 pin wired headsets in them and I would like to use them instead of B/T due to the fact, when I'm on the road I d/n feel the need to be "conected". I am having the C.B. installed and would like to just use the wired headsets that I already have instead of tearing my helmets apart and installing B/T types. I know I will have to get diffrent cords because BRP connections have 7 pin types unless that has changed. My dealer told me that the 14's with the C.B. installed will work with B/T capability because the C.B. has been redesigned???? So if one of you more knowledgable people out there can give me some guideance I would really appreciate it. THANKS LOTS!!!

I have a '14, with the lastest version of CB radio and Entertainment Harness, and it does NOT have Bluetooth compatibility. The 7 pin lower cord is all you need for your J&M headset.

Leave it to a dealer to not be up to speed in the products they sell!! So if I order the C.B. and have it installed with the GPS,AUDIO and whatever else comes standard on the LIMITED model,I should be good to go with just the 7 pin cord??Hondas were just so much easier w/their "package" designations. Thanks very much for the help on this.

Yes, AND with the CB and GPS combo, you can sync/BT your cellphone to the GPS and it will connect to your wired headset, IF you purchase a Cellphone Interface Cable for $99. Ha. If you have any questions, send me a PM and I will forward you my phone number.

Steve

If you want wired comm system then you need to buy it. The CB/Comm system does not come standard on spyder like some other bikes.:banghead:
The blanks you see are where the connectors go for the wired headsets. Oh by the way you have to buy the wired headsets as they do not come with the CB/COMM system:banghead:

Correct. I don't know the details but Ed on edsets.com has some discussion of the differences between Honda and Spyder CBs. The Spyder and Harley CBs need a pre-amp in the mic circuit that Honda does not. That, and the pin configuration, is why you need a different connector cord. The big difference between BRP and Honda in the radio system is the intercom is part of the base audio on the GW whereas on the Spyder the intercom in part of the CB unit. That may be same on Harley, but I don't know, because the BRP CB is made by the same company that makes the one for Harley.

The two primary features on the BRP audio that are not on the Honda (unless it's been changed in last few years) are the integration of iPod and the GPS. As for BT, GPS, and cellphone, as stevedfive says, you need to add in the cellphone adapter and have a BT capable GPS. The adapter allows the mic signal from the headsets to go to the GPS, and the GPS is the comm link to the phone. The audio unit does have some phone call notification screens but I'm familiar with them. The GPS must have an audio input jack, which the BRP version of Garmin does. How many other GPS units have, I don't know. You are not restricted to the BRP version of the GPS to have GPS input into the audio unit.

Purchasing 2014 limited w/standard from the factory GARMEN ZUMO 660 GPS. Also my dealer is ordering two lower cords for my G/W helmets and the cellphone interface harness to hopefully complete the communication issues since this machine is all new to me. All I need is for the gps,intercom,c.b.and audio to be able to be piped to my helmet and passengers helmet and I will be a happy camper:ohyea:.Not much into being "connected" by phone at all times. Just like to ride and be intouch w/others I ride with. Thanks.
