There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Stranded on hwy transmission out

You post here to have people submit their opinion, that makes it everyone's business. You ask for opinions here you may not like the answers, so take what works for you and dump the rest. So for me and this post, Goodbye. I've got LEDs sitting in a box next to my desk that I need to put on my fenders.

So I should have left it at a dealer that give .02 about my problem? I did what I did and stand by it. I would do it the same way if it happened again!

I would not have left it there either. Don't think you did anything wrong. My .02.

What to do?

Did the owner make some questionable decisions. To my thinking, yes. But, they were his decisions and once he commited to them all any of us could do was help in any way we could. That alone puts SL members above what he experienced at the dealer.

This is another situation where SL members are more informed than a dealer. Had the dealer been aware of what we SL members were(bluestratos problem). They would have called BRP tech support, instead of what happened. That being, BRP reading the OP's post and contacting him through the dealer.

Did BRP or the dealer advise him not to try to make the trip back home? At this point, only he knows the answer.

We all need to take a deep breath and hope this gets resolved before we have others having to make similar decisions. Decisions that may vary widely based on an indaviduals mechanical knowledge and their particular situation. jmo

BRP did not advise me not to drive it home. He told me he would be at my dealer the following day.

Tomorrow; he's going to take a look at it? :dontknow:
It's real easy to play "armchair quarterback" fromt he cheap seats...
The O.P. is standing by what he did, and is going to let BRP's guy take a crack at the bike...
Why don't the rest of us let that happen, and then let him tell us what they uncover? ;)

:agree: Good words of advice. Let's not pick on the OP. Walk a mile in his shoes they say.

:agree:, but then there would be no drama on here...... These are the Days Of Our Lives....:joke:;);)

yeah I have the right tone! I am a local here and I clearly know my dealerships reputations. the spyder owner out of town just needed advice and they basically turned their backs on him:lecturef_smilie:. him being on the road and
trying to make it home is his business! we are all adults here and don't mean to step on any toes.

I agree.

Whenever I get frustrated by Central Texas Powersports, I'm reminded of Woods Fun Center!

Living the dream while I still can!

I wonder... how often do other 'luxury' bikes like Goldwings have problems like these... hmm. :banghead:

I've owned nothing but Hondas for the last 25 years. My wife and I love our Spyder, but BRP has a long way to go to match Honda quality and durability.

any body want to buy a 2012 with 12 miles.. this is depressing ,, think I'll go back out to the garage and look at my spYder.. at 66 I think I am too young for a goldwing.. best Honda, the only Honda I had was a 175 SL.. took it everywhere.. found when the clutch cable broke , I could grab the remaining cable and still keep going.. but that was many years ago

It is a natural reaction of most motorcyclists to try to make it home...limping or not. I sure wouldn't blame you for trying, especially when the other dealer wouldn't/couldn't help and BRP said they would meet you at your home dealer. Sometimes you roll the dice and they turn up snake-eyes.

You would need the BEST warranty, either purchased or under a promotion, to get road service. As you have discovered, there are severe limits. One thing touring riders have come to rely on is their credit cards, I'm afraid. I also stash a hundred or two in cash on the bike, in case of wallet theft or a cash-only situation.

If your problem turns out to be the same as Bluestratos. it worries me. Repeated problems can spell trouble. I hope these are isolated cases. BRP need for the 2014 RT to be bulletproof in the light of last year's difficulties.

One of the hurdles Spyder dealers have to learn to leap is the stretch from recreational vehicle to touring road bike. Most Harley, BMW, and Japanese touring bike dealers will move heaven and earth to get a stranded traveler back on the road. That is part of what drives their touring machine sales. I spoke with Carlo and some other BRP reps about this several years ago, and they have made some gains in that area, but it needs to be stressed more, supported by BRP, and encouraged in their dealers.

Goldwings?

Absolutely nuts. Sorry to hear about this happening.

I rode 'Wings (along with other brands at the time) for more than 25 years. I never had a problem. The only problem the bikes had was mid 80's with the alternators.

But I am coming up on 2 years with Spyders, '12 RT Ltd and now '14 RT Ltd, with no problems.

In the last few months, I have had no desire to return to GW.

I remember asking my first dealer when he expected the 14's to roll in. He has a small inventory and normally has only 2 Spyders on the showroom floor. His reply was that BRP had delayed delivery of them because of transmission problems. This was back in November. In January I was there to bring a friends bike to the shop and his reply was the same. I thought this was odd because I read from owners in Florida and elsewhere beaming with pride about their 14's. What gives? My private mechanic mentioned something about the factory backrest being bad or faulty. To have something mechanical or electrical going awry is one thing, but to have something like a backrest causing problems, something visible and that the customer physically utilizes is quite another. Are they making too many Spyders for the size of the factory that its making an imprint on quality assurance and customer service or what?

Have heard nothing about the backrest. Mine seems to be fine, in fact I love it. Although I think in the summer its gonna get a little warm on my back.

Called the dealer this morning and sure enough as promised, Danny from BRP got there first thing when they opened and Danny plus 2 other techs are working on my bike. They have the clutch removed. No word as to the cause of the problem. Hopefully I will know this afternoon.

I am under the impression that the 2014s warranty includes roadside assistance, even without the BEST warranty (although i also got the extended 2 years Best warranty with my Spyder). Am i wrong????
