Windshield decision

I think I going to disagree with you there. I bought a lightly used shield on this forum about a month ago... and it had a manufacturing defect... burns/bubbles in a 2" x 4" area from the heat forming process.

I called once and emailed twice. I even got a return email from one of his folks who said Marcel would have to call me back as he personally handles things like that.

My emails were polite (I don't holler too much except for politics).

I haven't written my own review yet while waiting on the call from Marcel.

But...I'm still waiting for a call back.... a month later. I don't know how many contacts he thinks are necessary but, so far, IMHO, I've made two too many.

ATADUDE

You can disagree but,

How do you know the prior owner did not heat it up with a heat gun while trying to change the shape. If they did why should he be held responsible. I doubt Marcel would knowingly send a windshield out with any defects. Just not good business. He has always returned my calls, might a day but always returned the call. I would have no problem buying from him again.
There is always to sides to the story.

It doesn't really matter - read the email below and pay attention to the very last sentence... "open to all solutions but I do need to be contacted":

Dated 4-Feb-2009

"... Marcel, I left you an email mid-last week regarding an F1 slider that I bought from one of your customers. One of your associates replied that you would contact me. So far, nothing...

The pic attached is from the driver's seat looking forward, up and slightly to the right. The heat marks are on the rear of the clear shield.

Please let me know what we can do about this. I am open to all solutions but I do need to be contacted.

Thanks,"

So.... how many contacts do you feel are needed to even get a response of any kind... including selling me an additional part?

And, in your opinion, is no response at all an adequate response to a valid inquiry such as this?

Sorry, but I just don't find it acceptable to attempt multiple contacts with no response at all to get something... anything... done.

I'm with you...no excuses...plenty of other companies out there with good products...let competition decide who survives...no need to deal with companies with questionable customer service. Customer service should be good for everyone, not just for some here and there...

What responsibility do you think Marcel has for something you bought used? Is this the shield with the slight crack in the corner that was offered for $25? If this shield had a "manufacturing defect" that you were unaware of, your beef is with the guy you bought it off of, not F1.

Definitely more to the story here...

I was on the waiting list for the CHAD before it was available. I didn't like it when Industries 7 said I would have to e-mail my credit card number to them, because of the insecurity of e-mail. However, with much trepidation I e-mailed all of my shipping, contact, and credit card information. Over the next several months I would contact them to get updated on the progress of the product development.

Much to my surprise after months of doing this I got a reply that they were shipping them and I should send my credit card and shipping information and they would send one right out to me.

I e-mailed back that I was disappointed that since I had ordered one and was on the waiting list, and if they were now shipping to order, that I had not received mine. I told them that I didn't want to e-mail my credit card information again and they should just go into their file and retrieve the information they already had from me.

I got this terse message back to; "just send the information we asked for and we will ship". Since they already had the information and no explanation on why they couldn't use it, I thought this was strange

I PUT THIS REQUEST TO THE "SMELL TEST" AND IT DIDN'T PASS, SO INDUSTRIES 7 DIDN'T HEAR FROM ME AGAIN.

There is too much identity theft going on these days to take a chance on anything that doesn't "smell right" as you get into it.

If anyone knows what was going on here please post it.

I was hoping to perhaps buy a CHAD later this year...maybe someone from the company will chime in here and explain what happened...maybe they deleted your info and needed it again? If you haven't had any cc issues yet, I wouldn't worry...I have been victimized by cc identify theft...what a nightmare...it's unlikely that a visible company would play games with your cc...

I sure wish you would closely read what was posted to begin with before replying.

Read the last sentence in the enclosed email. Here...I'll make it in big, red, bold letters so you can see it:

"I am open to all solutions but I do need to be contacted."

Just to be safe, I spelled it out for you, too:

I'm sorry that you can't understand the issue of contact. And, I'm really glad you think there is "more to the story".... whatever that means.

And, no, it wasn't the $25 windshield.

Note that no "smilies" were harmed during this message.

I have a CHAD (for winter... I use the medium CalSci the rest of the time) and it was a no problem deal. I did order it through the Magic Man, though. He sells them. Read my write up in the "My Mods" forum... page four, I believe. It's a great shield and, of course, the Magic Man is there for you.

Wow, I just had to quote that masterpiece.

My reading comprehension is just fine.

You didn't buy the windshield from him...he doesn't owe you a damn thing, including any contact or any solution. Comprehend? To have any expectation of customer service, you first need to be a customer and you're not.

Agreed on that...Evan is solid...I just have to get through this spring/summer...lots of expenses coming up and the windshield has to wait...won't really need it until fall anyway...

We just installed the CHAD  Looks to work for both of us (4'10" and 5'10). Good fit and finish, nice install.:2thumbs:

I have to agree with ataDude. He should get a response, whether he bought it from Marcel or not. From what I have read, he's not asking for anything more than a response. Maybe all he wants to find out is if it is a factory defect.

It is still Marcel's product. What happens if there was a part that ataDude needed for the windshield?

I'm leaning more toward the CHAD because of this; even though I like Marcel's product more just based on what I have read and seen here. JMO

Well, I can't see the problem here. Marcel did not sell the shield to ataDude, so he doesn't owe him the time of day. All it would cause is a contest of he-said-he-said. The shield was bought by ataDude used and that's what you get when something is bought used. The problem spot cause cannot be proven one way or another, unless the truth is told. As has been quoted many times, "You get what you pay for".

Doesn't matter who owns it and in what order...if he creates a defective product, he should address the problem...who cares if atadude is the 1st, 2nd, or 10th owner? Defective = defective...

:bdh:

No one can prove whether it was defective in production. It was USED. Marcel is in no way accountable. PERIOD!

I must agree that Marcel should have contacted the person as it is still a product that he manufactured. In fact, from a legal standpoint Marcel has to make replacement parts available for his products for a certain period after the sale. I'm not sure what the current time-frame in the USA is, but about 10 years ago I had a legal claim and at that time it was 7 years from last date of manufacture.

I also tried one of the Marcel shields and was not impressed, had trouble getting ahold of him, was told over and over a new unit would ship--- and it never did. I got stuck with a mis-aligned, warped shield that he wouldn't fix or replace. $180 down the tubes. Ended up trading it in for a $60 credit to Cal-Sci and got one of their XL shields.

The Cal-Sci works well, but I still prefer the look of the BRP Touring shield - so that is what is on the bike most of the time.

Everyone has a right to hear both sides of how every vendor has treated people - as long as it's presented in a decent way.

I wouldn't recommend one of Marcel's shields, due to my bad experience with him.

The Cal-Sci works quite well, but if you're much over 5'10" you might need something else. The CHAD seems very functional, but I personally don't like the looks of it.

Some kind of adjustable unit that looks good is what we really need.

Bottom line is, by Marcel not contacting ataDude for whatever reason, he has probably cost himself at least one and possibly many future sales. I don't think ataDude was wanting warranty repair, right? He only wanted information to see what solutions there are to remedy a problem. Marcel may not have had any legal obligation to do anything for ataDude's used F1 but he's lost quite a bit in a customer's (or a potential customer) opinion by not responding.

You're right, Marcel probably should have contacted him looking at the bigger picture.

My total contact with Marcel has been a 10 minute phone call, actually a call back. We quickly covered the information he needed, and my wife had a brand new slider under the tree in six days (a day earlier than promised). This is the same level of service that I've read about from all but 1 or 2 people who have dealt with him from this board and the other.

From that 10 minute conversation, I can easily see where the email posted here would give him the impression that ataDude was looking for "something for nothing". Yes, I realize that is not what he wrote, but I didn't see anything in that email that stated he was looking to buy a new upper piece. As always, there are two sides to the story and we're only hearing one.

It's real easy to trash somebody on the internet and honestly, Marcel shouldn't lose a sale based on one sided information. It's a shame that for some people, one complaint carries more weight than dozens of happy customers.

Now...these are only my opinions, nobody needs to get their panties wadded up over them.
