• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So I get all the way home from work today, get off my Spyder, and then notice the side panel is gone. Just missing. Awesome.
Fortunately I only live about 8 miles from work, so I re-trace my route and find it on the side of the road, all scratched to hell.
Now, the Spyder only has 1,500 miles on it. I changed the antifreeze two days ago, BUT I'm not a moron (and I'm mechanically inclined so to speak), so after I put that panel back on I checked it not twice, but three times to make sure it was firmly on (I didn't like how only friction clamps are holding it on). I am positive that it was.

This Spyder frustrates me. It's nothing huge mechanically that has happened (knock on wood), but so many little issues keep popping up and it's getting to the point now where even my wife just says, "Sigh... what now and how much will it cost?". I rode Hondas and Victory bikes for over a decade and you combined ALL the issues I had with them they would still not come even close to as many as I've had in the last few months with this brand new, $20k+ Spyder. But I love the ride it offers and the safety that comes with it. I feel like I'm in high maintenance relationship with this thing, but I can't break up with it now even if I wanted to.


Anyway, can someone please point me in the right direction to purchase another one of these panels, since the one I have now is boogered to hell (even if the pic doesn't look like it, it is, especially around the edges). I'm sure it'll end up costing several hundred dollars to replace. And I highly doubt the warranty will cover it. Damn it.


I'm frustrated.
 
You should be able to order it from any Spyder dealer in your area.
I have a 2011/2012 parts book and it's priced at $144.99

Check with your dealer. Maybe they will have mercy on you and give you a break on the price. Just look very sad and dejected as you tell them your story. Shouldn't be too hard! :(
 
2012/2013 Flying panels

You are not the first or will be the last. Know of 2 owners that lost the LH panels. You have got to make sure the panel is firmly secured at all the points. One owner went so far as to use high strength fishing leader, the cable type,and attached security cables to each panel. :banghead:
 
The last two times I went to the dealer for service--they did not have the side panels firmly attached. I have now got into the habit of checking them each and every time I get on board. Just a part of my start up routine.
 
I lost mine and told my dealer, shown and they took pictures. I called BRP and argued nicely since I only had 1200 mile when it happened and still under warranty. I finally got mine for free replacement. Kind conversation with BRP goes along way.
 
make shire their is on lug on the rubber when you put them back in. use son alcohol to clean rubber parts is side and on the tips before putting them in. if some oil or antfre gets on rubber they fly off under your ride. hope this help has done this to me.
 
I use a couple of South Bend 6" wire fishing leaders and some heavy duty twist ties (or small tie wraps). The upper peg has a hole though the bottom attach the side with the round hole there. There is a large hole in the plastic behind the rubber grommet. There I attached the clip end of the leader. It makes it easier to remove the whole panel if the clip is there. 6" is just enough to let the panel hang with out touching the ground. The other issue is when new you had to pry mine off but after the first service they came off easy. I am betting the tech lubed them. I used some Throttle Body spray on the posts and rubber grommets to clean them and they now need a good rap on each one to pop on just like they did when new and a little prying to get it off. Depending on mileage I have heard BRP replace those for free under warranty especially if you tell them you never touched them before. :thumbup:

How should I go about contacting BRP to see if the warranty covers it? I bought mine at a dealer 2 hours away, so that's out... Maybe email?

Talk to the dealer and ask him saying " I never ever touched it and did not even know it was removable" to contact BRP about replacing it under warranty. :thumbup: By the way doing the mod makes checking the oil easier too just pop it and let it hang. No more looking for somewhere to set it down. 2hrs is just an excuse for a good ride but you can call on the phone to see if he can get it done.

If your grommets were not pushed through or missing, the problem was most likely that the little hook at the top rear of the panel was not engaged under the adjacent panel. Another cause is the use of lubricants of any kind on the pins or grommets. It may make installation easire, but it also makes the panel come off easier. There is a lot of negative pressure on this panel from aerodynamic lift and from air that travels under the panel at the openings, and lifts the panel constantly at speed. If a grommet gets pushed through, the panel comes off much more easily.
 
Velcro

When I installed my Block Off Plate from SpyderPops, he included some Velcro to help prevent the panel from falling off.

The velcro holds the panels on very we'll and it's a easy mod to prevent the panels from falling off.
