• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Curious as to why the Spyder does not arrive at the dealer fully assembled ? I'm thinking that I would rather have the factory do this, than "some" of these so called dealers out there ! 2014 Cognac RTL coming soon. Thanks, Craig

It's not a joke...it's the truth. It helps them fit in the selected crate. It also reduces damage in shipping...they can be carefully blocked in place...and the suspension components do not have to take the beating while being transported. Brweakable components like the windshield are less subject to damage, too.

From what I've read on spyderlovers I would have thought that setup was a huge big deal. It isn't really, they put on the front wheels, fenders, install the battery put on the front trunk and the windshield. It doesn't look like rocket science to me. I bet given good instructions I could probably do a fine job myself.

Why..!!

as stated space, protection to parts. They can probably get four crated roadster in the space of two assembled. Crates protect suspension mirrors windshields seats etc. If you could get a direct shipment to you you would have no problem assembling. They come with instructions. Ordered my bikes when in south america and assembled them myself...

Ann, you are on the money. I was quite surprised when they assembled (actually he assembled) my 2013. There's just not all that much that they do.

:agree: Back almost thirty years' ago; I worked part-time at a Honda/Kawasaki dealership, assembling bikes.
(Scary ; huh?)
Put the front wheels and bars on, slap a battery in it, air up the tires, and move on...

I think the big thing the Dealers should do is go over the entire unit to make sure everything works right BEFORE the customers get it. Kind of a bad feeling when the new unit will not track because a tire has a slow leak or will not start because of a loose conection at first stop. No oil in engine can be a problem. It happened many years ago, just a little and the engine just blew up. Things happen.

Would be cool if you could have it shipped right to you. Drop the assembly charge that some dealers charge and it would be fun to do it myself.

You are correct, Ann. I bet you could put it together.

To date we have purchased four Spyders and watched three of them being assembled. The trained mechanics at the dealership are not involved in this work. The person who assembled the first one I watched (my wife's 2010 RT) was a part time worker who had a number of other garage maintenance duties. The next two were done by full timers but not licensed mechanics who 'helped' do jobs around the dealership like cleaning machines, re-arranging the display floor, stocking parts, unloading trucks, etc.

Once the machines were assembled, a mechanic then inspected the work.
