• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How do you say in french........."oops marketing mistake", I spoke with BRP, some one in there marketing dept today, apparently its my opinion she did not have a clue what she was talking about, she stated, marketing published the front switch is on the RTS before it was ok'd, so she admits BRP made a Boo-Boo, BUT she also said, BRP will not be adding it, then she said...."funny Part", why do you even need the switch if its to be opened with the key?" My reply was, well uhmmmm if i have the motor running, i can hit the switch and the Frunk will open, with out it i have to turn of the engine, Her reply was "Ohhh, Well its not hooked up anyway", My reply "with all do respect, it is, i checked on my 14, its just missing your over priced 94 dollar switch"......needless to say she was startled...so there you go..FrunkGate update....

NOW, i have no interest in a debate, do you need it or not and 25 strings arguing over it, it was something i caught, addressed and am informing you all. Lamont- please chime in with your wisdom and knowledge.....

Safe Riding!

Good update. Que Sera Sera. (What will be will be). Not much else to say there.

At least they did not tell you to check with your dealer. That is usually the pat answer I get from calling them with a question.:dontknow:

Try this on the 2014 Spyder RTS with it running. Push down on the key and turn it to the left at the same time. See if the trunk opens. That is how it works on my 2013 STS.

Frunk latch

It works on the 2014 also. While the engine is running, all you need to do to open the Frunk is push in on the key and turn to the left and it will open and the engine will continue to run. I think they eliminated it because it was just a duplication of something that was not needed and just cost money, and provided for another item to malfunction. just MHO

FRUNK GATE

Here we go again.....understood, that is not the point.
you may not of liked the switch but for a single switch there are a lot of us that do.....Make Sense?

Happy Riding all.

I understand there were some complaints about accidentally releasing the parking brake when hitting the trunk switch. Whether or not this is what prompted BRP to eliminate the switch (in the interest of safety?) only BRP knows. I doubt cost was a factor, since it isn't listed as an extra-cost option, either. It is unfortunate that the advertising listed it, but that is not the first error of that nature for the Spyders. As to the reason the switch costs $100, that is a mystery, too. I'm sure that a specially labeled switch costs more than the standard units from the manufacturer, but that seems like a lot of markup. At any rate, It is no longer standard or a listed option, so the only available alternative is to buy the switch or use an alternate of some sort. Owners and prospective owners will just have to resign themselves to that fact.

It is an option page 32 accessory manual for 2014 and it's all wired up in the 14s I know this because I have a 14 and looked just the switch is missing thanks for your thoughts

Interesting that they would show it as an option in the catalog, but not offer it or even acknowledge it in person, when speaking to them. Similar situation when they phased out the RTS cover, my 201 had one and my 2011 did not. Then they cut back the luggage for the LTD and cut out that cover, too. It seems to have become standard practice for them to introduce a model with a lot of frills, and then slowly make them extra-cost options. Aren't marketing folks fun?

My 2013 RTS works the same way. You can open the frank with the engine running by simply pushing the key down and turning left.

Always wondered why you had two means to open drunk anyway?

I think you 2014 new owners just need something to whine about because the rest of the bike is so purrfect
:banghead:

Looks to me like they would use the same switch as the 13 models that came with the frunk switch and that switch is only $55 bucks? (710002353) And at that price it's still too high! If the electric solenoid is there couldn't a person just add a switch anywhere on the bike just by extending the wires and using a water tight momentary switch?

Is the Solenoid there?

Good question. The wiring to the switch may be there but is the required solenoid ?

Sorry but it still is listed as a standard part on their web site and also listed as part of the RTS package in their parts catalog for 2014, page 51 lower left corner of that page!:banghead:

Well; the alternative for them, would have been to recall and destroy ALL of the printed literature... and then re-issue corrected copies!
At a reasonably large expense...

Not adding fuel to the fire and not starting a debate, I like the frunk switch. I would like it to go a step further. I know, I know spoilt little brat but I like my toys. My wing had a remote key fob, you could lock and unlock all the bags with the push of a remote button and even pop the trunk with it.

I must state in my defense I'm a gadget junkie, I love gadgets, the more gadgety the thing the more I'm sold.

Phew now I have got to surf the web, I've got myself all wound up for some gadget porn....:roflblack:
