• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RTS trailer hitch

I'm interested in a hitch for my 2013 RTS SE5. I don't have a trailer and probably never will, but I'm interested in other accessories to mount on the hitch (golf club carrier, etc.). So, I do not need the wiring harness. I understand that the BRP hitch is what I need. However, paying $599 or even $560 (prices I've seen) for a hitch is insane, to me. Has anyone ever seen an alternative, THAT INSTALLS THE WAY BRP'S HITCH MOUNTS? I'm aware of the aftermarket one that requires the axel to be removed to install, and I don't think I want to do that. Has anyone ever made one (or had it made by a fabricator)?

That is not compatible with the 2013 RTS SE5, and also requires the axel to be removed to install. Update: I did get a message back from this seller saying that it is compatible with the 2013 RTS SE5. However, it still does require the axel be removed to install. The reason I don't want to go this route is that I don't think I can install it myself, and that would add the dealer's installation charge to the cost.

I do not see where it says not compatible nor do I know of any changes made to the rear axels but I have never seen one that works without the axel being removed. It isn't that hard to do:thumbup: Hitch can be removed from the plates after install.

The only after market hitches for Spyder's that I have seen involves removal of the axle - so if this is a show stopper, then it looks like the only hitch available is the one from BRP.

I had an aftermaket hitch (thru axle) on a previous Spyder and it worked well, but let someone who has experience do it for you, lot of little things that need to be done other than just remove wheel. Spyderpops did mine and can probably explain better than i can

The rear axle is hollow. The bolt that holds the hitch on the bike goes through the rear axle.
The axle still has to be removed and I don't know whether I want to take that on. That is why I asked for info on any hitch that does NOT use this procedure. Apparently, there is no other hitch except the BRP ones. For anyone who is interested, here are the instructions to install as listed in the ebay item.

RT Hitch Installation Instructions

1- Use a floor jack to take the weight off the rear wheel
2- Remove the plastic cover on each side of the axle
3- Remove the cutter pin on the right side
4- Unbolt the axle and remove it completely
5- Remove the washers on each side and replace them with the side plates. Note there is a left and right side.
6- Re-install the axle and bolt it in place. Once this is done, insert the cutter pin and re-install the plastic cover on the nut
7- Bolt in place the U-Shape hitch using the hardware included in the box. Insert the bolt from the inside out and once it is bolted in place, install the plastic nut cover.
It is easier if the parking brake is not on.

The instruction had not been posted when I wrote my first reply. I had 1 hitch from Mel's Monster Garage and now the BRP hitch nd neither one requires rear axle removal.
The one you write about, appears to be a PITA POS, IMO.

This is the hitch I have on my RTS. I also have the Seal Universal Hitch Mount that goes on it. No, you don't need a wiring harness for the Golf Tote or other non LED excessories I have. If you want the Patriot Guard Flag Holder with LED you will need it. The Seal Spyder Tail Light and the LED American Flag can very easily be wired to the License Plate light.

Did you install yourself? Did you find it difficult? Or a POS? Just wondering.

I'm ok on small stuff but left that to my service guy. I just didn't want to mess with the belt and proper tension.. I hear it's not that difficult but I decided to leave it to the pros.
