• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Melted Master Cylinder 2013 RT

When I Get My 2013 RT Back From the Dealer

I plan to install one of these, somewhere inside the tupperware, with a duct that runs out underneath and blows the heat to the rear. It draws 2.5 amps, and, in a duct, will provide 100 CFM of air movement. I can't help but believe it would help cool the inside of the tupperware. It looks as if you'll need about three inches of depth for it... Why not see if you can mount it vertically up under the bike to push airflow upward? :dontknow:
Once you get the air moving; ducting it out to the rear might not be necessary...
 
There have been posts by a lot of people that, in my opinion, are downplaying the seriousness of the recall. I hope that every time another owner posts that their master cylinder or evap canister was actually melting that the downplayers will rethink their position and shut up with their "only two Spyders have burned blah blah blah" and realize that every Spyder has the potential to start on fire until the recall is complete.

I know this strikes home with you but when I said that only two RT's have known to have caught fire it was not down playing the seriousness of this problem. What I said was the facts and the facts are Spyders are not bursting into flames by the masses as you would think by reading some of the post here. The fact that master cylinders are melting and now there have been reports of evap cans melting is not a good thing and for sure should not be taken lightly. If BRP thought that this was a high risk as far as the number of Spyder fires were high you can bet they would be telling owners to park them till the recall was performed. I think I have 7K on my ST right now and it's a production unit and it has not had the recall done yet but I will be getting it in asap but I'm not too concerned that it's going to burst into flames but I will be checking from time to time if there are any signs before I get the recall done.

The recall has address all the issues of melting parts to BRP's engineering standards. You can be sure this was not a quick fix and there was destructive testing done to make sure this problem is solved. I see no need for any backyard engineering to be done for the melting parts issue.

As far as rider comfort I think there are a few things that can be done. I worked with Spyderpops to fix the issues I had and my last problem was I was still getting a very hot right foot and I was able to seal the cracks where the heat was coming from and now I'm very happy with the mods that helped me. I'm sure that the vented side panel that's on the 14's will do wonders for moving hot air out of the engine compartment while moving. It's not going to do anything for you sitting in traffic but I was able to put mine to the test while trying to get into the parking lot at the balloon fest in NY. We didn't move much for about an hour and it was hot but the Spyder did fine and I wasn't burning up. :doorag:

I was lucky not having any damage to the MC or Evap cannister, but took the recall seriously. My wife and I had several discussions about continued riding until the recall fix was completed. All units are capable of doing what Spyderanno1's unit did, and shes right. Don't down play the danger here and get the recall done. It may be a bandaid fix, but unlike hers, explaining why you didn't have the fix and burning your unit up, is a hard sell to BRP, or your insurance company. We will see how the fix works out. fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
 
ARGGGH! I just called the dealer to see if the recall work was, or would be done, today. "Hi, I'm calling to see if my Spyder is done." "You will have to speak with The Spyder Service Department. He is outside with a customer right now. Just a moment." Four minutes on hold . . . "He is busy now, you will have to call back. Click." Awesome customer service! It has been like that every time I've ever called. Like they couldn't have taken a message for him to call me? It sometimes takes days to get ahold of the "Spyder Service Department" . . . which is one young, overworked kid :banghead:. There are three other dealers within 2 hours of me. Triumph of Windber, PA, to the north; Coleman Power Sports in two locations, Falls Church VA and in Woodbridge, VA, and then, just a little further down the road, Virginia Power Motor Sports in Ruckersville, VA. I'll ride 90 miles to warm up my Spyder just to check the oil, and a 70 mile round trip to fill the gas tank, just because I can . . . There is a new dealer in my future. These folks have struck my last nerve.:banghead:

I wasn't directing my comment at you specifically but there have been a number of comments made that have downplayed the seriousness of the recall. I commend BRP for acting quickly in issuing the recall and in getting the kits out to their dealers quickly. I wonder if they would have worded the recall the same if they had known just how many units had melting parts.
 
Just called again . . . got the Spyder guy. I asked if my Spyder was done. He said:" Well, I'm sort of working on it." silence . . . I said: "Will it be done today? (he said yesterday he had all the parts) Response" I don't know." Silence . . . me:" Should I call back later, or tomorrow." Him: "I guess I could call you when its done. I don't know when that will be." It is like pulling teeth to deal with these folks! Every bit of information requires a painful extraction process. I am not sure how they stay in business.
