• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

helmets

When it's cold out no question I'd rather wear my full face Arai for safety and to stay warm. But in the summer when it's 95 to 100 degrees I wear a 3/4. Just got a Shoei Platnium for this summer. Around here sport bikers mostly all wear a full face year round and harleys and cruisers seem to mostly wear no helmet at all. I never ride at highway speed without some kind of helmet. I have wondered that since Spyders have three wheels that it might not lure some riders into thinking they don't need a helmet since this is not just a bike, thing is it's still like a bike if you come off in a wreck.

I think you should feel very comfortable with your Harley full face helmet. You shouldn't need to spend more than $200 for good protection. Keep in mind that the guy who sold Jay on the Arai helmet was an Arai representative, IIRC.:dontknow:

:agree: Wear whatever you like, as long as it is certified and it fits. There are lots of good choices, many of them quite economical. From there on out it is a matter of which features you want, and appearance. I no longer wear anything but full face helmets, except for wearing my halfpot sometimes when riding to a show a few blocks away at 35 mph, or in parades. I know this face isn't much to look at, but it's all mine. Last hit was taken right in the full faceshield. Besides, the beard is too hard to grow back out through scar tissue. :) Once you have been sliding face down after coming off in turn four at Mosport, watching your faceshield being eaten away, you develop an appreciation for such things.

Rando, I like the modular (flip face) helmets. Although I haven't worn a prescription lens for a number of years since having laser eye surgery, I do normally wear sunglasses, and the modular helmets make it easy to put the helmet on and off without removing my glasses. I have an HJC Symax currently.

My Scorpion EXO700 has a nice slot in the padding for the eyeglasses. Very convenient. My wife's new Arai does also. My Fulmer is a pain, as was my old Gmax. The best thing to do is try a few on and see.

I agree. The shape and design of the glasses (sun or RX) makes a difference also. My HJC worked fine with my RX glasses, but my sunglasses were a different style and really pinched.
 
Scorpion EXO-400 is my current choice. I like it
Fits well over glasses and is a tight fit.
Make you buy at a good reputable motorhead shop. Good shops will let u try them on and walk around the store for 30 min having it on.Check out to see how it feels under a variety of positions.
A good shop will let u do this.
If they don t have time for you ,you need to move on to a more serious shop.I found Blackmans cycle in Emmaus Pa. to be excellent !

Full Face are the only designs i would entertain coming from past of high performance driving instructor at the Glen, Lime rock and Pocono back(yes there we rode the road course and the tri-oval in reverse.

Oh and please ...not only DOT approved but Snell foundation as well please .We all need you around on this planet; A more sobering activity would be putting your blood type, last name and any known allergies on the backof it.Although they will cross match u anyway it does give them a heads up..

Two last points i have learned over the years:

I.) If you have a $60 head then by all means buy a $60 helmet.
II.) Never eat anything at anytime bigger than your head.

The county I live in here in Florida has the 2nd largest population of people over the age of 65 in the country. Way too many snow birds for no helmet not to mention the fact that all the interstates here are like running the autobahn. Nope my helmet is an American Express card, don't leave home without it.

Hey SpyderJim - I own 2...a full face Shoei RX-1000 for colder weather and for long highway rides, and a Scorpion EXO-100 half helmet for warmer, back road rides. Both are great helmets, but don't let anyone tell you what to buy...it all comes down to comfort and fit. I tried on a bunch of helmets before I bought either of them. If you can, go with a DOT and SNELL certified helmet, although I don't think that 1/2 and skull caps are SNELL certified. Good luck! :thumbup: GO2LKG
 
I went with a Shark RSR2. Awesome venting, however it has a nice insert to keep your nose and mouth warm in the winter. Also, after reading that same article last fall before I purchased my Shark, I decided to look for something with the European rating and leave the Snell lids alone. It's amazing how powerful a marketing tool a little "Snell" sticker can be when people don't even understand what it means. I think many people would stay away from the Snell rated helmets if they actually understood that they offer very little energy absorption. I'd rather bust the helmet than my head.:banghead:
 
I have several helmets I wear on different occasions. All must be able to comfortably accommodate my glasses.
Most of the time I wear my AFX full face flip up when weather permits. 30º - 75º Then I switch to my HJC open face with the full visor. 76º - 90º Then my Bell shorty with sunglasses or goggles. 91º -115º.
