• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Fire & BRP

Status
Not open for further replies.
Bombardier also makes:
Lear jets
Canadair jets
Rotax engines for light aircraft, motorcycles, ATVs etc.
CRJ-200 etc - About half of the regional jets flying
Sea Doos and Ski Doos
About 1/3 of the light rail systems out there
Subway cars
Can Am Commander etc ATVs

So BRP/Can Am is equivalent to the Corvette division of GM, might be a good analogy.

BRP is split off of bombardier. Different companies. BRP makes ATV's, snowmobiles, watercraft, rotax engines, outboard engines and spyders. No jets, no trains

BRP took quick action with my ST overheating...

I have posted my overheating experience with the Dealership & BRP in another thread, but to sum it up, my 2013 ST Ltd was overheating, going into limp mode, and throwing code P0217 4. Dealer called BRP and BRP said to replace the temperature sensor, radiator, and thermostat. Furthermore, BRP asked that the parts be sent back to them for inspection. I then received a phone call from BRP (Canada # on caller ID) asking if I was satisfied with the way my repairs were being handled by both the dealership and BRP. I was blown away by all of these actions as they seem to be the antithesis of the sentiments expressed in this thread. It seems as if my experiences with BRP as a Spyder owner have been an anomaly. I have been happy with the service, repairs, and follow up thus far. I'm not saying that my ride hasn't been in the shop a lot in the 2 months since i've owned her (6 visits) BUT, i've always received a loaner and the repairs have never been over 2 days in length thus far. I am not defending BRP nor am I leading the charge against them...i'm just sharing my experience with them thus far. Below are both repair orders for the overheating experienced...

Job Description:
Performed coolant replacement procedure to specifications. With the miles on it, there shouldn't be any air in the system. BRP had a spyder specialist call. Spoke too Davey Call ID# 4168971. He said to check to see if the thermostat was upside down. It is installed correctly. He also said that the new spyder panels are holding in more heat. They have had issues with customers riding their unit at slow speeds. Stopping for a short period of time with the engine off. Then when they restart the unit the coolant is over heating. They then take off and it cools back down.

Dave, them posting here means nothing to me. So what, they posted and said they will investigate. Really? What exactly are they going to investigate on what has been an issue forever? Annes bike, haha whats left to investigate? The "plastic bag" excuse from there very own demo fire speaks volumes and tells me one of 2 things. They don't give a :cus: and feel the risk isnt so bad, or they can't/won't figure out what changes need to be made. Both of those options suck!

Again, what are you looking for? You want them to admit fault so they can be sued into bankruptcy? You fail to understand that they have a reputation that they most likely want to uphold.

Silence does not equal not caring to everybody.
Silence DOES mean there is nothing to say (yet) to most people.

When I told my dealer about the overheating codes he told be to call BRP they don't listen to them.:yikes:

You know Dave you seem to be quite a Fanboy for them and are not really helping by defending them at every turn. It IS up to them to solve these problems I would hate to see them sued but whatever it takes to make our investment safe in my book.

Customer Service at BRP - NOT

Baloney GM has reps on almost all of their car forums willing to help their customers with cases including contacting dealers about there concerns. Why does it take 15 min to get BRP customer service on the phone? They need to step up their game in customer support especially for a $20-30k vehicle.

http://www.terrainforum.net/index.php?action=profile;u=1143 2200 posts on one forum by GM

I called BRP "customer service" for a couple of issue with my 2012 RT earlier this week - I hung up after waiting 17 minutes....I wrote them an email. The first email was very generic and said work through the dealer. They haven't responded to my second email telling them how dissatisfied I was of their first email!! They are not responding to customers concerns like they need to. This bike cost more than my new Chevy Equinox! When I had any issue with the Equinox, it was fixed right away (within hours) of taking it in with no issue on it being covered under warranty. My bike was at the dealer 7 days (yes, 7 days in this short riding season) for a vibration issue. Still not right (it's a long story). I am concerned about the BRP response to their customers and what it represent - I feel I should not have purchased the extended warranty as it may not be worth the paper it's on....just my thoughts -- hope they get their :cus: together in terms of taking care of customers who shell out these big $'s for their vehicles. So far, BRP has not satisfied my concerns/requests. I truly hope they do....next service on the bike probably with tell me how "supportive" they are and how effective the warranty coverage is ....hoping for the best!

You know Dave you seem to be quite a Fanboy for them and are not really helping by defending them at every turn. It IS up to them to solve these problems I would hate to see them sued but whatever it takes to make our investment safe in my book.

Say what you will... I'm neither fa fan, or a hater... just stating facts. Funny how attitudes change when some people get posed with a differing viewpoint...

Just chill, and discuss... I feel like you're gonna come gunning for me because I present a different point of view...

I don't think you should be using Government Motors as the gold standard for running a company.

I think service should not relate to company size, but companies which ignore issues rarely grow large and successful.

It works for Toyota!!

No that is what forums are about I respect your opinion even if it slants in BRP's direction. You may have had a better experience than me that biases you that way. Maybe after Saturday I may lean back a bit because I am going 2 hrs to a dealer I have heard nothing bad about unlike my selling dealer. I am hoping for a co operative experience and to address several small issues still left like the oil stick O ring total disintegrating, the #4 link I have already removed, and the belt that is obviously rubbing on the inside of the sprocket in the rear. Time will tell but in the mean time

!

There are lot of people who disagree with you including Consumer Reports, Car & Driver etc. They are doing everything they can to right the wrongs....it's BRP's turn.

Again, what are you looking for? You want them to admit fault so they can be sued into bankruptcy? You fail to understand that they have a reputation that they most likely want to uphold.

Silence does not equal not caring to everybody.
Silence DOES mean there is nothing to say (yet) to most people.

Dave, its pretty simple what I am looking for an what everyone that buys a spyder should be looking for. Fix the heat, gas and fire issue that has been apart of the spyder history since 2008. Do you think in 2013 fires should still be an issue, and possibly worse than previous years? Admit fault? Well, take a look at the charred remains of Annes bike, they don't have to admit fault, it's quite obvious.

I understand where you are coming from corporate wise, but 5 years later we should not be having this conversation. To me, this is a conversation we should be able to have as adults and consumers. I'm on the side of people who ride spyders and i'm sure you are also. Some are placated with a simple "we care post", or buy the plastic bag BS....c'mon. J

heat

my 2013 rt runs hot but not to the point that i would complain about it, i find it refreshing that BRP responded to the post of the bike burning up. i have taken both Chrysler and ford to lemon law court over the years and won both cases but as we all know talking to a mfg. about a problem is like banging your head on a wall. they won't admit the problem is their fault. judging by all the chatter on here they might say lets not do this again and just let the dealers handle it and that is the same as talking to a wall. so lets give them some credit and i am sure they know the problems that do exist and we just hope they come out with a result for them. i was having handling problems and if it wasn't for this site i would of never know to have my dealer to look up my vin number to see if my ball joints and tie rod ends needed to be replaced. so now the parts are on order. BUT if a mfg. knows the problem does exist why wait until someone has a fire or in my case a accident b4 they say yes there is a problem so all bikes sold under this batch number need this and that replaced. ( just to be clear i did not have a accident ) i am a first time owner of brp products so lets just see what happens.

It is almost "Beer Time" Isn't it?

I haven't had any issues with my Spyder, except for the leaking waterpump, but I'm trying to look at it from a corporate point of view, not someone defending BRP.
I work for a rather large company - almost 300,000 employees worldwide. I know when the stuff hits the fan, we're given "talking points" on the issue, and that is all we're supposed to say.
Many people will say "Well that's just wrong!", but it is what it is... I spent 10 years in the Military (back in the '80's) and although I had a lot to complain about then, I look at corporate America, and think there is much they could learn form that. I've been in Corporate America now longer than my military career, but I still miss that at times, and at times absolutely hate corporate America, but it is what it is.

I would much rather see corporations being able to be more transparent without the risk of legal repercussions, but that won't happen anytime soon...

Seriously, you believe the drivel these mags spit out. That explains a lot.
I currently own a 2011 and a 2013 Buick. I never owned a GM product before I purchased the 2011. My past cars were mostly Japanese and German. I can attest it is not the same GM. Product is better, dealers are improved and my experience with two different dealers has been very good. And yes...the have customer service people, who are very proactive, hanging out in the Buick forums.

:agree: I've had some issues with mine; nothing major though... I don't mind aying that I'm a fan! :2thumbs:

I like the product and I believe in the Company and it's ability to fix the issues.
There; I said it! Flame on!

People vote with their wallet. It's best to either be in or get out. Sitting on the fence is always going to be a painful event. Doesn't mean you can't offer constructive criticism if you're in. But tearing down the builder isn't going to improve the product.

Sugar works better than a flamethrower.... :ohyea:

You say these issues have been part of the Spyder since 2008, yet in numerous polls on this forum, it has been a small minority who have complained.
I'm not saying they don't exist, but people tend to make mountains out of molehills. Before you take me out of context, which I'm sure you are itching to do, let me clarify... Fire is bad, but it happens. The question is how many times has it happened compared to units sold. I'm sure Honda, Harley, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, etc... have NEVER had a vehicle burn... Should we knock their doors down with torches and pitchforks too?
It's all a matter of perspective... Like Ronald Reagan said..."It's a recession if your neighbor loses his job, it's a depression if you lose yours."
I agree that this warrants investigation, but if the occurrence is in the low percentage of total units, the investigation will take some time, and that is only if the frequency is high enough to say that there is a problem.

I hope that 2 2013 RT's burning to the ground in a matter of a couple months, and the numerous melted parts on the ST's have got their attention... It would have gotten mine if I sat in one of those offices.
