• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riding skyway today and this happened....

Here is what I wonder.....

2008-2012, very few broken Heim joint links.

2013, a rash of broken Heim joint links. All but this one with stock sway bars...

Hmmm.....

Lamont we were on the same channel. I started pondering what would work and it looks like we almost matched solutions. I am putting them on both my spyders.

Here is a side by side of them. Also, as long as you change both sides at once you will be ok. The new steel setup is a 1/8 inch longer. If I were at home I would have ground it down but after installing it. I realized that it doesn't matter about length as. Within a reasonable distance.

Here is a side by side

Thank you very much Roger.

Be careful what you get. I would not use either of those. Just because it's a Heim Joint doesn't mean it's going to work.

You have to get the correct diameter bore and specs that are strong enough to take care of the stress.

Do you think it was the stress of the new sway bar on the OEM plastic coupler that caused the part to break?

Carl

There is no doubt that a stronger sway bar puts more stress on these links. But it is interesting that all but this joint where broken with stock bars. There are over 1,000 pre-2013 Spyders with my sway bar on them that have had no breakage issues. They all use the same Heim Joint Links.

BajaRon,

I don't see the 2 piece locks that are used on each side of the after market sway bar. I think I see what appear to look like the plastic bushings only that I have on my 2008.

Yep, I have one of your first 2012 RT sway bars and it has been nothing but fantastic with nary a problem.

Carl

These are exact diameter of original and made much stronger. Im going to take the chance. Worst it can do is break. Or break somthing else upstream. I was in a hard turn at over 80mph when the original broke.. only thing that happened was loud pop and a slight shake. after i was out of turn it was a way looser. I definitely need the big swaybar from Bajaron. Ill let yall know if it does well tomorrow. I hope it dries up just a little so I can torture it.

I think pretty much any option would be better than the stock option. :doorag:

I'll certainly second that motion! Have you checked clearance with the female coupler? On my 2011 RT the link is real tight to the bracket. Is there room for jam nuts on the rod ends? Yes, you guessed it...too lazy to grab some parts and start messing around with the options. Any way you slice it, a tougher arrangement looks like a good idea...especially for the 2013s. Ron and I bounced this one around a while back, but things never went much farther...at least on my end. We did determine that using a combination of male and a female rod end would not give enough length.

No. The stock setup is breaking them also. Im sure it stresses them more. Ron will most likley come up with a more professional looking "upgrade" part than my double tie rod end fix. Ill have some results tomorrow with my fix and ill post back here.

The 2013's are completely different. There is a lot of room so no need for the limiting collars. However, the bushings are blocks of hi-tech fiberized, self lubricating plastic and they do the job of both the bushing and mounting system.

It is a much better system and another upgrade BRP incorporated into the 2013's. But we may have another quality control issue with the links.

I would tig weld the two heim ends to lock them up

Same Boat with broken Tie rod ends

I have the same thing going on and have stock one on order one thing I noticed in the picture , it looks like the tie rod was attached to the outside of the anti sway bar in the manual it appears it should be attached to the inside. Thoughts on this Do I have that wrong?

Just completed the cherohola skyway and was on the last few turns and the swaybar linkage broke. I have however come up with a bulletproof solution. I will post it as soon as I get some internet going at the cabin. It will solve all the broken swaybar issues.

Ill go ahead and tell yall what to buy to permanently fix. Get two 5/16 fine thread tie rod ends and a grade 8 bolt with enough thread to cut off and join the two tie rods together Now butt them together and it will be the exact length as the plastic junk that comes on the spyder....

Ill post pictures later.....

I have no internet yet at the cabin in tellico plains. I am buying a verizon myfi and hopefully ill be online shortly.

Did not realize you were still running the OEM bar but thought you were in the middle of a beta test run for BR.

I am running the prototype beta bar. I was just saying that other people had them break with stock bar.
