Was driving down I4 Sunday and the right lower door with the chrome Can Am logo, came flying off. I took this to the dealer who contacted BRP and was told they will NOT honor this as a warranty issue. This is a 2012 RT Limited I just bought in November. Now they wasnt around $300 to replace the door#$^$&##&&*@@&W^&W^&

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The usual cause is an improperly "installed" panel. This can be the fault of the tech, or the owner. The grommets get pushed through upon reinstallation, and there is nothing to hold the panel in that spot. The wind suction and vibration then tear it off. If you just bought the Spyder, or if it was just serviced, I'd lean on the dealer to make it good. If you took the panel off to do some mods, or kicked it loose by accident, I'm afraid it's on you.

My 2012 RT-S came with a broken stud on the left top side panel and a cross threaded bolt on the left rear panel... someone at BRP was not having a good day assembling Spyders. So if it had a broken stud I'd try again to get BRP to replace it. BTW the cross threaded bolt is $5 and the pal nut is $5...

I Suggest you order the panel yourself....runs about $160 plus 12 for foam insulation if you want it. The chrome logo kit is about $85 new. .'ve got the chrome logo for the right panel if you want it at half that price plus couple bucks shipping. PM if you do. Its still in plastic shrink wrap.

I pulled my panels off last night for the first time and it's pretty hard to get the pins out of the grommets... I doubt you could kick it loose.

Warranty replacement has been spotty at best. The dealer is technically to blame on a new Spyder or after dealer service, because he is the last to handle the panel, but even with a series of "improvements", the design is less than sure. It should not be this easy to lose one...or at least a security cable or screw should be in a part of it. I feel it is a warranty issue from that standpoint, but BRP doesn't always seem to feel that way. How the dealer presents it to them is probably a factor.

Sorry to hear about the panel coming off. Cannot add much to what was said. A little disappointed the dealer seemed to be on the hard nosed side. The worst BRP can say is no--not wanting to even contact them is callous--IMO.
I have got to the point that I check the panels regularly to make sure they are attached properly. I found one loose after servicing last year--but caught it before I drove off the lot. My dealer had one fly off on his personal RT back in 2010 and lost it on the highway.
It would be nice for warranty to cover this incident on a new machine--but some dealers are more difficult to work with than others.

That's unfortunate and if the workmanship have failed BRP should replace it for free. At least the dealer you got it from should help you out in someway.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh......Geeeeeeeez.....I'm sorry. I was thinking that Jim, the originator of this thread, was talking about his saddle bag. When someone started talking about the panels, I was wondering how we had gotten to that.

Every RT owner MUST learn how to install this trim panel properly, because many dealers simply don't know how or are careless about installing.
See the first picture below. The small trim tab that angles inboard MUST be positioned so that it shingles over (inboard) of the air screen (see second picture). It's going to be easier to feel this than to see it.
If you have that positioned properly, and your grommets are securely in place, your trim panel will stay in place.
Make sure your grommets are secure. They can be glued in place if needed to assure they don't get pushed or pulled out of the carrier panel they attach to.
To install a Trim Panel do this:
Moisten the three plastic push tabs (with water, spit, soapy water, etc), and install the trim panel in this order:
1) upper forward push tab
2) once it's inserted, rotate panel rearward slightly while gently flexing that trim tab in over the air screen while you rotate the panel forward (see second picture - this is how the trim tab should be if you done this properly)
3) once you rotate it forward and have the trim tab shingled inboard over the screen, the forward lower push tab should be lined up with it's grommet. Insert it into the grommet.
4) the rear push tab should also be lined up now-- go ahead and insert it
5) the upper part of the trim cover now snaps onto the painted panel below it by gently pushing (see third picture)
To remove a Trim Panel do this:
1) pull the rear most tab out gently from its grommet
2) pull lower forward tab out of its grommet
3) rotate trim panel rearward to un-snap the upper corner of the trim panel from the painted plastic panel beneath it
4) continue gently rotating rearward to un-shingle that trim tab from the air screen
5) gently pull the last tab (upper forward tab) from its grommet
Take your time doing this install and removal. It retains very well when it's installed properly. That trim tab is strong and flexible, but you have to apply force to it slowly and deliberately or it will break!

I have 16k miles on the Rt it has been to dealers in 4 states and constantly have had numerous problems with the panels. The last dealer I took my and my wives RT informed me that both bikes had the wrong grommets on them which created the problem. I understand that this Is a common mistake suggest you check yours to make sure they were correct as the dealer you purchased the bike from could of made this mistake in which case he should be liable.
