• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

No more excuses.......

But how come you didn't have a bikini-clad lovely there to towel dry it?

Good Video Randy ! You did however forget to mention-- do not under any circumstances get any water in the area of the SOUP CAN !!!!:roflblack::roflblack:

Good Video. Also missed you having a towel person to dry.

Glad you mentioned the part about not blowing pressurized water on the controls.

I am in the hand wash and gentle rinse camp.

EDIT: I am going to add the part that I tried pressure washing once, and water got where it was not supposed to. My spyder bucked and snorted horribly until the parts got dry.

I have been getting mine dirty, like a bad boy:lecturef_smilie:. Maybe the wife will spank me??!!!!:ohyea:

Seriously, I was in the camp of waiting until the roads were "salt free" up until a couple weeks ago when I took my road test. I now reside in the" I am gonna ride any time there is minimal snow on the roads. It occurred to me after riding through the rain for my road test that I did not buy this spyder to leave it in the garage and look at how clean it was, I bought it to ride. That is part of the reason I am riding it to my EMT course tonight. I have snowmobile gear. My hands do get a little cold, but if I am going to do more winter riding I will just add handlebar warmers like the ones on my sleds.

I am with you Randy, it is time to make miles.......................................

Just sayin'............

I admire your fortitude

I have always wanted to take mine to a high pressure wash bay like that, but I was told by my dealer and another dealer under no circumstances ever, ever use high presuures spray around the vents and openings in the motor area. They said there was just too much danger of getting water or at least moisture into the computers and wiring that could cause failure of some of these components. As a result I have always hand wahed and at the most just used a garden hose with no nozzle and rinse water off in that manner. Usually I jsut use a cleaner/detailer spray unless it is really muddy and gritty. If you have been doing this type of washing on your beautiful bike and have had no problems......I'm thinking maybe just maybe I have been too cautious. You da man Randy!!!!!!:thumbup::ohyea:

People think the Spyder is such a high tech thing a ma jig........ It's not, It's a gasoline powered internal combustion engine just like everything else we drive on the road.

All electronics are in water proof/resistant sealed compartments. These are not like old school cars where the distributar cap would get wet and it wouldn't run. Besides hold the nozzle back a few feet and your good to go. If someone held a high pressure hose to my skin, yes it would hurt. If that same hose was held back 2 feet, that high pressure would now tickle.

I must admit, normally I just use polish, but you would need water this time of year as you know........

I was watching to see if Arntu's were going to get messed up--but all seems to be well. He did mention not to spray to close to the machine though. A good idea IMO.

Question: Are any special precautions needed around decals and custom vinyl graphics?

As you can see every graphic on my spyder is custom vinyl ........ Keep it back a few feet, thats it.

I am not doubting your word but, my HD and Spyder dealer said the same thing as Spyderjockey,s dealer. They said there might be an area that you might not be able to clean with the pressure washer and the salt and salt dust that is left on it is hard on the metal parts. I don't know, maybe this is my excuse not to ride if there is a lot of salt or snow on the ground. I have heated clothing and use it when I ride in the fall and winter but when there is salt on the road it stays in doors.

:agree: Have to add that the spYder and other vehicles throw the salt particles and sand at highway speeds and can/will chip & scratch the windshield & paint. plus rust. Look at our cars/trucks around here.

EXCUSE #2

Thanks for making my point...........

I'll also admit to using excuse #1... :opps:
I just wouldn't want to have to waste an hour of time for a thorough cleaning, on twenty minute's worth of riding. :gaah:
Simple cost versus benefit analysis...

If that were true it seems like we bought something that shouldn't be ridden in the rain, I think some dealers don't think before they say no.
