There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. new rear tire

well , with almost 12,000 miles on my :spyder:... I had to take her in for a new rear tire and oil change and clear a brake failure code that was scrolling on the display and any other item the tech may find. I'm not sure how many miles other owners are getting but I think thats about the limit ... mine was slick as an onion ... she'll be ready for some more miles when I get her back ...:yes::yes:

Changed mine at 13 I think and I have about 11 on this one and it's getting there. May try a car tire next time. :doorag:

My tires, all three, are still looking good at 11,000 miles. I think I'll get at least 20,000 out of them. Must be from lack of burnouts (never done any) and nothing more than semi aggressive riding. :D

Vinny, you know it does last a bit longer if you don't leave half a layer of rubber at ever stop light..lol.

Anyone on here try a car tire yet?

I went in to see about getting one and PepBoys told me that they could order one but only one or two companies make that size, and they couldn't get me pictures of the tread pattern..... which I'd like to see before I buy it.

Anyone have experience with a car tire to tell any differences if there's any to speak of? Handling, traction, treadwear??

the Dunlop S9000 , is an exact tread pattern match , I thought about trying it . but the dealer gave me a discount on the Kenda (stock)

Just something about a tire that's made in China that bothers me. :banghead:

Check out tirerack.com, they've got a few that match the Spyders size.

What is so special about our OEM rear tire? It doesn't do much as far as turning. The front tires are because of the low presurre and the ESP. I have been thinking the same as everyone else and am wondering what the alternative is to the OEM???

Actually, both tires are low pressure, compared to car ratings. The tires are specifically labeled "For Motorcycle Use", which I assume means don't stick them on your car. I know of no such markings on a car tire, or even a standard motorcycle tire. Maybe I just haven't looked closely. I suspect the main differences between this and car tire would be sidewall stiffness/strength, rubber softness/hardness (i.e. "grip"), and the tread pattern. Also, the actual rolling diameter is very important, not just the size. It might be necessary to raise the tire pressure from the Spyder spec in car tires. They could dismount themselves from the rim, or leak, at lower pressures than intended for car use. So far, few seem to have been willing to experiment. It will be interesting to see the results. It would be nice to hear comparisons on things like traction, wet weather performance, ride stiffness, etc.

I guess BRP puts Motorcycle use only to have a monopoly on tire sales. The rear tire's pressures are 28-30 psi. They are not low pressure like the front but I to would like someone to try something else or at the very least explain the difference from this rear to something else. This rear tire doesn't grip that well anyway.

Its two, wide circumferential center channelsand "high angle" lateral tread grooves effectively pump water to the sides of the tire's footprint to enhance wet traction and minimize hydroplaning.

Regularly meet a chap who tows a trailer with his Spyder. Rear tyre worn out after 15,000km. Front OK. He'd just put a Toyo Proxes T1-R on the back last time I met him (about 3 weeks ago). Hope to catch up with him again in about 3 weeks. The Toyo cost AU$179 fitted. The Kenda costs AU$400 fitted. My rear is just about a slick (16,000kms) so I'm off to get a new one. Although many manufacturers ofter 225/50R15, only Toyo and Kumho appears to offer that size in Australia in road tyres but many manufacturers offer that size in a road legal race tyre. However, these outlets are scarcer than BRP outlets and the tyres are more expensive than the Kenda in any case. Also, no one other than Kenda appears to offer a matching set of front and rear.
