• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear View Camera

Cost seems to run from AU$170 and upwards depending wired, wireless and screen size. The sample I posted is AU$260. Given other electronic device pricing (Australia vs US on GPS etc.), this probably equates to about US$85 for basic to US$130 for one pictured. Not sure how well the LCD will go turned on all the time the lights are on and what sort of view you actually get. But I'm tempted to try.

I thought about it on my sportbike since the mirrors gave me a good view of my elbows. They sell these remote rearview cameras at WalMart for about 80.00~90.00. They are usually mounted to the car stereo display. Screen is LCD so it may be a problem in the daylight especially if the sun is behind you.

Mirror Extensions

I have to vote for the mirror extensions ..... low tech - one less thing to go wrong, doesn't clutter up the Spyder and really could cause more problems than it fixed. I've got mirror extensions and they work PERFECTLY ..... no wires, viewing screens and other unnecessary hooey.

Yepper, I've seen them at Costco for about $80. Thought about it but haven't done it... yet.

With my luggage (particularly a swag) across the back seat, I cannot see a thing. Just toying with options. Saw a 'busa with the mirrors removed and two rear view LCD screens and cameras. Doubt if I'll ever do it but just curious if anyone had used such a system. Suspect the smaller screens (2.5") are useless except for reversing. Not sure how good it would pick up red and blue flashing lights from any distance.

I put up a post way back in Jan about this,as I havre added a rear camera for just these reasons back in Jan.

The wirelwess unit I used fits right nside the gutted out old plate light housing and the screen fits right under the key switch on the center plate. You would never know the camera was there if I did not tell you it was.

I do wish the view screen was a bit bigger, but overall it works good and helps with the blind spots.

I really wish there was an inexpensive and small "night vision" camera for the front for night driving. One that could spot animals - especially deer - at a distance far enough away to be able to take evasive action.
