• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. CalSci Windshield Not Compatible with Can-Am Riser Block

The Can-Am Spyder (factory accessory) 1" riser block (which is actually a half inch upward and a half inch aft repositioning of the handlebars) is incompatible with the (marvelous) CalSci windshields. Your clutch lever (in the extended position) will contact the left edge of the windshield a full 1-3/4" before your tires reach the right-turn limit. I tried repositioning the clutch lever, shimming the windshield screws, etc. with no appreciable improvement. According to Mark Lawrence (at CalSci) when I informed him of the anomaly:

"I believe you have to choose between your risers and the windshield. The 1" risers are not very popular, according to my information: people who want risers are tending to go for more like 3" or 4". I've run into issues like this on other bikes, and my general policy is I don't compromise the wind protection for most so that the shield is compatible with accessories installed by a few."

I would actually prefer the 3" or 4" risers but fear that such an installation might void (or partially void) the factory warranty. In any case, according to Mark's information sources, it sounds like there are only a few of us with the Can-Am 1" riser block... so this incompatibility issue won't have any negative affect on the masses. But take heed if you do have the Can-Am 1" riser block. I'm really disappointed. The CalSci windshield looked wonderful on my Spyder. But I do a lot of close quarter maneuvering (parking lots etc)... and not being able to cut the wheels fully to the right causes me a lot of unnecessary grief and skinned knuckles... and the Spyder already has too large a turning radius to start with. I'm opting to keep my 1" Can-Am riser block and await the unveiling of the Can-Am Spyder touring windshield (due to be released next spring I think). It looks a bit too touring'ish in my opinion but since the riser block and the touring windshield will both be coming from BRP/Can-Am, there's a real good chance that there won't be any clutch/windshield incompatibility issues.

Ride 'em if you got 'em.

Ken,

We now have over 25 Can-Am Dealers who are now Street Magic Cycle Products dealers and are purchasing and installing the 3 and 4 Inch risers for their customers.

These Can-Am dealers have no warranty fears in installing these everyday. So, the worry about warranty coverage does not seem to be an issue at all.

Many of these dealers actually install the risers on their demo unit to help win over the customers objections about the low bar height, and use these to help make the sale. With now being able to show how the low bar height can be over come with such a simple mod many have said these closed the deal for them.

Thanks for the information. We were considering the CalSci, but we have the riser. Looks like we will continue to ponder. I think there are more 1" risers out there than CalSci believes. Although some of the folks on this forum have added KewlMetal bars or No Magic risers later, they have 1" risers. Others continue to list them in their list of mods.

A small interference is no real problem, but your measurements sound substantial. Odd, since the windshield gets narrower as it rises, and the 1" riser makes the bars back further and higher. You would think the interference would be less with the riser, not more.

I agree with you Scotty as regards the affect of the Can-Am riser block. It does bring the bars up and back (1/2") and I made a point of that during my discussions with Mark Lawrence. It's still a quandry to me. Flies in the face of simple logic. Well ... I guess it's not all that "simple". Like I told Mark, I'll just throw this one in with the other pantsload of anomalies I've accumulated over the past 6+ decades.

i did notice when i had that windshield on the on tight turns my knuckles hit windshield but my clutch lever is set to lowest level....

I have the 1" riser and the CalSci windshield. I feel the benefits of the CalSci FAR outweigh the occasional bump to my knuckles; (then again, I don't do a lot of parking lot maneuvering.) I have ordered the 3" Magic riser, however, and that will even take care of that little problem.

:agree:
I also have the CalSci and 1" riser and frankly I've not had any issues making any turns. I've placed almost 1,500 miles on my Spyder and have not had any issues. This includes going up 2 stories in my parking structure at work.
