Oil in Spyder from BRP

Hi to all, I'm new to the forum and live in the UK. I have sat at my PC for a week now, (sad, I know) viewing nearly all posts in an attempt to understand my 2012 RS.
I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK, we use Shell Ultra 10W40 fully Synthetic.
It's API SM & JASO MA2 and It's the Shell recommended oil for Can-Am Spyders.
Oils have changed since BRP wrote the manual, the latest API SM oils for motorcycles now contain friction modifiers for wet clutch machines and do not cause slip.

By the way I envy your gas prices, here in the UK it works out to $9.53 a gallon for unleaded

Lucky you. The Shell European products are not available here, such as the Ultra. From everything I've read about it, it's great stuff. Oils can meet SM and JASO MA2 at the same time as Shell Ultra proves. BRP seems unaware of the JASO MA specs and so just specify not to use SM oils. If they knew about JASO maybe they'd change their spec accordingly.

Actually -I was told the SAME thing by a Mobil 1 Tech during a Phone call!!!
Mobil 1 4T Is MA rated but has changed the API to SM to be in Current History with the times?
BRP needs to address this and ALSO Tell us what they are putting in their Synthetic Because I looked up a MSDS on the BRP Synthetic and it tells you very little??

All of this just stuff just convinced me to Start Using Amsoil and I,m a Happy Camper!!

You are correct. The "better" thing about the Shell that we can't get here is that it's rated JASO MA2 as well as API SM. The Mobil 1 is only rated JASO MA which means it meets MA but not the more demanding MA2. So it's good for wet clutches -- I ran Mobil 1 95,000 miles in my Gold Wing with never a hint of slippage. But MA2 is even better. Since some owners have reported slippage problems with their Spyders, MA2 would be the safer way to go. Other than Shell's Ultra, I haven't heard of an MA2-rated oil that is also SM. But there could well be others - I just haven't seen them and am not really looking. Amsoil is fine for me -- MA2.
