Do I Want To Buy 2012 RT Limited?

Same here 2 2012 RT Ltds and no problems other than trying to get my brother in law ready on time for our rides

So the RT SM5 advertised for $18,900 is now a negotiable $17,500??
When did this rebate take effect and how long does it last????
I do not know the dates and how long it lasts.I believe it started a week or 2 back.I know it applied to the RTlimited because of what was discussed at the dealership yesterday and would presume it applies to the other RT models.Basically it reduces the advertised retail price by $1500 and then whatever the dealer wishes to reduce it by.

if it helps, I have bought two RT'S this year and not had a limp home nor any real issue at all on either. Never posted to that effect but like others have said, when you get on any forum, you hear from people seeking answers on specific items but that does not mean that everyone has those issues.

In a forum you will rarely get complete consensus....but trending common issues do come to the surface....and all lessons learned from owners are worth consideration....I've realized some common ground exists between Spyder and Harley riders....doesn't hurt to carry tools (for anyone who knows some mechanics) - I never even consider carrying tools in my SUV or car...but would never go for a scoot without my handlebar tool pouch and spare plugs.....

I suppose if nothing else, it's validation that common sense is required....from reading this forum board and chatting with some folks, all agree that the newer models are better than previous and early models...I suppose like anything else, the bugs need to be worked out...I know all too well...I owned a first year of the 5 cylinder Chev Colorado.....

Well with all of the incentives out there I think I may just have to go for it. Got a very firm price of 23250 before taxes for a beautiful bronze 2012 Limited with the tan seat. Hard to believe but true. Part of me wants to see what is coming in 3 weeks but I have a sense that whatever it is is not going to give me the piece of mind that the 2012 may offer as any new model is surely going to have some kinks to work through.

Do have to say that I've been reading the forum pretty seriously for a few days and now feel that the trend of people complaining about their RTs has definitely gone down in the last couple of years which I take as a good sign.

Thanks to all here for your input. May be joining you guys on the road very shortly!

Keep in mind that the 2012's have all of the latest modifications and software updates. Also the lower prices are now and if all of the hype on the new 2013's is about an updated RS or a new model somewhere between an RS and an RT it will not help your desire for a touring model.
I bought a new 2012 RTS in July, got the 4 year warrantee and an out the door price of $25,000. That's good enough for me and two years from now I will have to look up the paperwork to remember what I paid for it. By the way it's a great ride with no heat, turnsignal, wheel alignment, radio running down the battery or vibration issues that I can tell. The main reason I pulled the trigger on this purchase was the four year warrantee and the fantastic tech my dealer has. He takes an entire day to set up and test drive each new Spyder and considers it a personal failure if one comes back due to anything he did or didn't do. In my opinion the dealership is as much a part of the deal as the price of the bike and I would pay more for the bike knowing it was right and not all screwed up at the start.

Exactly my thoughts. Thanks!

Still Deciding

Want to thank those of you who sent me private emails both pro and con.

But one thing is pretty clear to me...with a 2012 Limited now able to be grabbed for 22k -22500 even, there is something very big coming because dealers across the country are not just clearing inventory, they are DUMPING it.

And if I had shelled out 29k for a new one a few months ago I sure would be extra pissed that the value of my Limited is now sitting down in the 18k range used. That is a 40% haircut and it really does not say a lot about BRP's interest in offering their customers a fair resale value by preserving something close to MSRP.

Great if you are a buyer for sure. Really bad if you are trying to sell one.

My 2010 runs well, and it's set up perfectly. Yes, having someone else do the maintenance IS expensive, and you need to really look to find a good dealer, but all of the RT riders that I know well, ride 2010s, and none have an interest in a newer version. If I were looking, I'd focus on a low milage used RT with a warranty. But then financing is never a consideration for me.

When I was looking, I felt the "S" version offered the most bang for the buck, and the chrome on the LTD wasn't worth the extra money (to me).. JMHO

HMMMMMMM

I bought a 2010 RT-S SM5.
An early model, yes...I am an early adopter, and have suffered because of it.
Many repairs, almost all warrantied by BRP.
I disagree on one point. I would have to say that BRP's customer support is exceptional.
The first two seasons were...difficult. Many warranty repairs, many factory upgrades to solve problems.
So far this last season, it's been pretty good. Oil changes, and an optional electronic upgrade.
I think all of those start-up problems have been worked out. A 2012 should be an excellent machine.
I've got about 23K on my Spyder. The last 7 have been quite pleasant.
I've been to the Dragon twice and planning a third trip in about 6 weeks.
No limp mode. I've never been stranded.
BRP's dealer network seems to be a bit Dodgy. They don't seem to support long distance travelers very well.
As everyone says, the dealer you use is the key. If you have a good one, your Spyder experience will be excellent.
Mine is GSS Powersports.
As I said, I expect all the start up problems have gone away.
As to dumping the 2012 because of some revolutionary change in the 2013 line-up ?? I don't have any idea. BUT.....you only have a couple of weeks to wait and find out. I thought I read the model year 2013 announcement is on Sept 23 ?

Good Luck

Typically what happens is that while the prices have dropped drastically for now, when the 2013's are out and all of the older new RT's have sold the used prices will rebound. The price of a used anything is only what folks are willing to buy it for, not the the equivalent price of a new item. If the new 2013's have a list price of, let's say $31,000 for a Limited RT, anyone with a 2012 same model would not be selling their bike for $20,000 but most likely $26,000 even if they paid $18,000. The reason is supply and demand. If you want an RT and don't have $31,000 you would start looking at late model use ones so the supply of those would dry up raising demand on them. I bought a brand new over '09 RS in early 2011 for $14,500. I just sold it to buy a 2012 RTS and got $14,000 for it. The RTS was $25,000 out the door. While I plan on keeping it for a long time, I bet that in three years it would still be worth $21,000 to $22,000 with inflation and extra farkles added to it. While this is all of interest keep in mind it's not about the money or the bike as a investment,it's not! It's about riding, having fun, meeting strange, weird and interesting Spyderlovers!

We just bought a 2012 Limited Lava Bronze RT for a price that our local dealer couldn't believe. (He didn't have any Limiteds left so he couldn't match the price). He didn't see a big change coming with the 2013's so we opted for a great deal on a 2012 rather than waiting for the 2013's. A lot of the price cutting occurs since the new models can't be ordered by a dealer that has too many of the older models still in stock.

Good luck deciding if/when to buy. We've loved our '08 :spyder2: and are looking forward to having our 2012 one.

Aint that the truth ..... while one waits, they miss out on what could have been ....
