• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Clown Horn

Is it me or does the RT horn sound like a clown horn. When I got my new 2011 RT Limited, I was expecting a beefy horn so in an emergency someone will hear the sound.

My BMW LT had a horn as loud and beefy as a car horn.
Now I doubt anyone can hear it or will ignore the sound, laughing at the fool on the bike with training wheels!

Is there a MOD that can be done?

Anyone sell an easy replacement horn that will work?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

I replaced the horn in my RT Limited with a Stebel Nautilis air horn. Huge improvement. :D It fits in the same position but the mounting bracket needs to be modified.

Air Horn

What place did you purchase the air horn?
Any special wiring/installation needed other than a bracket?
Is the horn location easy to get to?

Thanks

I got my horn from Amazon. Here is what I ordered:

Stebel Nautilus Compact Motorcycle Air Horn: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NPRTII
Plug-n-Play Wiring Harness for Stebel Nautilus Compact Air Horns: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028ZKMM6

The horn comes with a relay so you don't have to get the wiring harness but it aready had all the connectors and it made the install easier.

I totally agree. The Stebel air horn does the job quite nicely!!

Another liker of the Stebel Horn here...

One quick food for thought. My Stebel Air Horn was and is much louder using the Relay kit for power direct from the battery than without. I tested this again this weekend for re-verification. If you plan to do this (And there a few threads on this BTW) please go all the way and build or purchase a relay kit that allows the horn to draw it's power directly from the battery.

It is good and loud then :2thumbs::doorag:

Today I decided to go out and pick up lunch and drove past a friend's house. He was outside doing something in his driveway and I tooted my horn at him and was a little embarrassed by the sound. I immediately thought "that sounds like a clown horn" and did a search on "clown horn" and came up with this thread. Glad I'm not alone.

Another horn thread, :roflblack: I'll never understand the need for a LOUD HORN, Unless it's to annoy someone after the fact, 40+ years on bikes i can't remember ever using the horn preempted, A Few times it was just out of frustration, A loud horn is not going to save you, Awareness of your surroundings will. If you find your using your horn a lot your doing something wrong.nojoke

+1

on the bad boy horn. funny how it looks E X A C T L Y like the stebel:roflblack:. very effective ! kind of like waters heaters, they all are made in johnson tn. also very effective.
Don't be a clown, get a bad boy! p.s. use the relay.

Ah... come on... where is your obnoxious attitude? Loud horns are fun. Especially train-horns. Now there's where the fun is!

You just have to lose a bit of storage-space for the large compressor.

My Grandpa always taught me...

If you have a loud horn, you don't need brakes!

And he had the 10 coats of paint on his front fenders to prove it !!!!!

horns are only to be used in "emergency situations" .........with the horn on my RTS I would need to throw something at them too.............sad

NO

With todays distracted drivers you need a LOUD horn. ( in my very humble opinion:rolleyes:) i don't get you guys, a loud horn can save your life. am i wrong?
